O/D Mileage on a New 2012
#16
Mine had 200km because it has been in the lot for a few weeks and some people had taken the car out for test drives. Also the sales manager took it home for a night. No big deal to me plus they gave me additional $500 off caused of that. I was happy. If I was buying a Ferrari then that will be a different story. Just my little thoughts.

For a new vehicle with x miles, there is no way you or any technician can tell whether those x miles were driven gently or driven with jack rabbit accelerations and hard braking....so why worry?

If I'm paying $45,000- $55,000 for a new Lexus or any other vehicle
in that price range and it was driven by a throttle jockey, you bet I'll worry.

Just a bit of clarification, at the time I wrote my 10 to12 purchase story the 12 had 330 miles on it. When I purchased it, it had 22 miles on it. Not bad for a car that goes from Japan to Portland, to Chicago and then South East Iowa. Perhaps not a demo, but probably test driven.

Maybe we should replace the / in this thread's title with a C and call it OCD! Get a grip people, it is only a car. A really nice car, but still just a car.

I have to agree that this is really not a big deal. Our 2011 RX had 8 miles on it when we purchased it. However, when I purchased my 2008 Cadillac CTS it had 307 miles on it. That is because it was a dealer sway with a dealer that was 300 miles away. We never had a problem. I believe, but I am not certain, various states have laws that govern when a car must be designated as used and these laws generally have a minimum mileage a part of the calculation. You might want to check that out in your area.

Our's had 11 when we looked at it... so based on this, it may have gone on 1 test drive. What the salesman told me was they have to drive it to fill up the tank as well. I would think anything under 15 would be ok. I was hesitant to punch it during the test drive as I knew I was planning on buying it. Also looking at the break in details, it's not that big of a deal.

IMO any car that you have second doubts against bc it was test driven a few times, must not sit that high with you when it comes to reliability and quality.
I purchased a Toyota with 52,000 miles on it, and I am now up to 213,000 (still going strong) and the only things I did was change the oil, timing belt twice and a few sensors.
This is a Lexus, and their track record speaks for itself. At the very least it should be able to handle a few test drives.

I'm pretty **** and if I'm buying a new car I expect it to be new at least within reason.
That said I would be surprised if anyone was doing donuts in the parking lot with a brand new RX.
A Porsche or Vette I may have a different opinion though.
