I usually change my own oil in my cars and will be buying a 2012 RX 350 soon, (non-hybrid).
Can anyone tell me what's involved, like how hard is it to reach the oil filter, and are there any
panels to be removed to get at the oil?
If not, is there web-sites that I can check with step by step instructions to find my answers?
I will be returning it to my Lexus dealer for the first new car check-up and oil change, then plan and doing it myself.
Cheers!

No covers to remove. Pretty simple but I do find the canister filter messier than the old spin on kind. Other than that a piece of cake.

Changing the oil in the RX is very easy, but, as previously mentioned, the paper filter cartridge inside the oil filter housing can be a messy proposition. Plus you need to be carefull re: installation of the "o" rings in the housing. Good luck!

i took our used RX to Jiffy Lube and the 20 year old kid screwed up the under carriage screen... they didnt reinsert all the acrews, so it came loose a few days later... if you change it, do it from the top... changing the oil filter on our old 2001 IS300 was ridiculous. i couldnt get my hand down there

Toyota/Lexus is pretty good at sticking the oil filters in ridiculous places, for example the RX300 which has the oil filter directly underneath the exhaust manifold... How convenient! At least it keeps the oil warm... hahahOriginally Posted by TampaOwner

I know what your saying.
On my 2000 RX 300, I kept the hood open while I drain the oil to cool off the engine, removed the lower front plastic fascia then went back
1/2 hour later and fought with the filter underneath the manifold.
I don't mine all this as long as I know what to do.

Nevermind. I know it as an 67mm oil wrench. Have not seen it described as an 'F size" before. Please return to your regular Monday night entertainment.
