Disappointed with dealer installed DVD system
#16
Its kinda hard to say this is a "bad install" when we don't even know how much was payed. If you payed over $2,000 for it like most others did for the headrest units then yes, this was a bad install. But if you paid $300 for it (depending on the quality of the unit brand) then no, it was not a bad install.

No, I don't play soccer!
Dealer install of anything is ridiculous. I think we know that around here That was not even a decent attempt and it worked for all of a week. I'd demand they remove everything and issue a full refund.

What, exactly, does the 'active' headrest do? Massage your temples? As far as that install, I would not have been surprised to see duct tape running from the headrest to the top of the screen.

It does look nice too bad; they did not get it to work with your radio system without a work around. It is a lot better than the crap they put on mcsooner70 car. I know that I would have never left the dealership with crap like that on my car.
This is our second RX and both of them have been special ordered cars. The surround sound on the ML is outstanding when a DVD is playing. In addition, the ability for the headphones to be on and for us to listen to the FM, USB, or Bluetooth makes it worth the few extra dollars the system cost.

According to Automotive.com:
"The front seats now have longer cushions, with higher backrests, and are fitted with active headrests as standard equipment. The headrests are designed to adjust upward in the event of a rear-end collision, reducing whiplash. Because of the active headrests, rear-seat entertainment screens are independently mounted in pods behind the headrests."
I am surprise the dealer install those for you, they can be liable for removing a factory safety feature. Did they have you sign a wavier form?

"Active Headrests
The headrests [1] for the front seats are designed to help prevent or limit the extent of whiplash in the event of certain types of rear-end collisions. The force of the occupant's body against the seatback moves the headrest upward and forward"
This if from the Lexus RX Features & Pricing page under Standard Safety & Security Features This is standard on both the RX350 and RX450h
