Hi everyone,

My 2010 RX450h is due for its 30,000 mile service. The service advisor tells me it'll cost about $550 for the whole service package, which includes the oil change, but also a host of other things, like brake fluid flush, electric battery check and "sealant", changing air filters, etc.

Can anyone tell me what I really need to do (obviously the oil change) versus what I really don't need to do (the visual inspections). For example, do they really flush the brake fluid, or is it just a refill? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

it`s a lot of check this, check that. Heck, I do that myself why pay $550.00 for it?

Unfortunately the dealers price them selves out of the market and allot of us do not do the maintenance schedules like recommended.
I have a older RX300 with 293k miles. I only did 3-timing belts, 1 water pump and wheel bearings and struts. Numerous oil changes (7500 miles) several tranny flushes and the car is still going strong.
I will do the same with my 400h

What...293k miles. Did you travel in every single state?

The brake fluid flush is actually bleeding the fluid from your calipers and topping it off to the max line after.
I actually do my own service. But for those who don't, how about paying a local mechanic $200 for the whole package with your own 0w20 oil (just cuz too many of them do not carry this weight since it's less popular choice.)

My S.A. wanted $650 for 30k. I looked at book and most of service was check this or that. I have NEVER replaced brake fluid unless i was doing a brake service. told them change oil and rotate tires, did the rest myself saved $500

First of all, I purchased this car used from my parents that never drove it so it is a 2010 with 32K miles on it. (April 2014). I made an appointment to have it serviced at the Lexus dealership in Westport CT. This is the closest dealership. A) They never told me the service department is 10 miles away down 95 in Fairfield. B) That a standard 30K service was $800 with tax .. Cough sputter ... smelling salts.... please. Luckily, I looked at what was required. Lots of inspect this and that.. an oil change, tire rotation, change the battery in the key fob (Dad did this and had a spare in attached in the manual at 22k), Filters, A/C tune up, and replace the PCV valve.

After kindly telling the nice man that "forgot" to tell me the service department was away from the New Car sales ... The only reason I can think of this is they don't want unhappy and shocked customers mixing with starry eyed new car buyers. I said, "You might have told me it was going to be that much on the phone so I could have brought a different check book". I'm looking at what is required said, "hold on".. I want to call the place that services our other cars in my home town. I spoke quickly with the owner to find out that if they tried hard they could get the service over $300. I asked for my keys to be returned. I wasted a morning but saved myself probably $600! Find a good Toyota or foriegn car repair shop!! My question is however.. this PCV Valve does it really need to be replaced at 30K. I get the car serviced every 6-8Months. I'll do it if recommended but not in the owners manual as a 30K item.

I still have the original PCV in my 11-year-old IS300. I've been meaning to replace it, but it is not urgent.

A long time ago, I was told about this PCV that needs to be replaced at each oil change. I was so worried my car would break. I went to the store, got a replacement and pulled the original out. Looked at the indestructible original that was made from metal, compared to the new plastic one, and put the original back in. That was in a Corolla. Since then, I don't worry about these that much.
