First Impressions of the 2016 RX 350 in Comparison to the 2015
I drove a 2016 RX 350 AWD w/Nav (under 100 miles) as a loaner while having my 2015 RX 350 15,000 mi. service today. First off, the steering is much lighter than the 2015, not sure if I like it that way or not? The engine compartment no longer has all the plastic covers in the engine bay, I think that's an improvement and maybe saved Lexus a few bucks in the process. I like the new "A" pillar treatment in that the little window allows much better side visibility than the 2015. I did not form an opinion on the "12" inch nav. screen, could not see much advantage. Waving at the rear door "L" insignia opened the door OK. Only advantage I found was maybe if you have your hands full. I tried to lower the aft door manually and the electrics took over as soon as I moved it. I did not notice much difference in the 8 speed transmission vs the 2015s six speed. The Options of 20" wheels and bamboo interior trim did not impress me. Parking brake is now electronic. The Cell Phone storage on the center console would not accept my iPhone 6S Plus. The new position for the Shift Lever was a washout, I did not notice any better control when down shifting or selecting gears. My AWD w/Towing Pack & Nav. delivered MSRP of $5lK & this very similar equipped 2016 MSRP @ $54K. Bigger Wheels, Bamboo Trim, Hands Free Read Door Opener, and a few other items had been added? In closing, I kinda like my 2015 RX in Claret Mica paint w/ Saddle Leather interior much better now and plan on keeping it for a while. I liked the new Roof Rack Rail treatment in they don't stick up like the former.

P.S. Also could not figure out how to get the "Gas Cap" door open with the buttons on the inside. I finally figured out that you don't open it from the inside anymore. One just has to tap the Gas Cap Filler door and it springs open. so , not anyone that wants to can siphon your gas or add stuff to you tank????

Thanks for your comparo between the Gen 3 and Gen 4 RX. Goes to show there's nothing as good as what's in the garage.

Lexus Champion
I got to spend some time at the dealer today and took a good look at the new RX. Man, those things are pretty incredible. I had previously dismissed it because we want a 3rd row in our next vehicle, but I'm going to have to reconsider our need for those extra seats.

I stopped by my Lexus dealer today and took a look at the 2016 RX. I just don't like the exterior styling ... and the RX seemed bigger than the 3rd gen version; another negative for me. Not a big deal because my next car is not going to be a SUV. I haven't really been connecting with the styling direction Lexus has been pursuing for a while now. I've been driving Lexus since 1994, but I think I will be be picking up a Mercedes C coupe after they are released this spring as my next car.
