Doesn't the ECO mode also also make the system try to use the battery to the max and the ICE to the minimum or something along those lines? I'm simplifying it of course.

I'm sorry to hear you are having buyer's remorse. I must admit of all purchases, of any kind, I've made over the years the RX450 may have been this only one I did not have buyer's remorse. After a year of ownership, I may have found somethings I'm not thrilled with, but overall I love it.

I struggle with mileage too. My best average so far is 29.1. Winter really hurts the average, that and a lead foot!

Good luck and enjoy!

To share my experience, I have a 2010 450h awd, and my 1st tank was atrocious - w/break-in and feather-footing it I avg'd 25 mpg over my typical mixed hwy/city commute - my '08 GS350 avg'd 23 mpg lifetime over the same commute. However the next 2 tanks I avg'd 30 mpg over the same commute. Not sure why this is, but your mileage will improve dramatically over the 1st tank (perhaps the dealers are using 87 octane for the first fillup ?). If my GS350 or IS350 are any indication, mileage will continue to improve until you have about 3k miles on the odometer . . .

I have a fully loaded 2010 450h. I think you made the smart choice to not get the nav. The data base is way out of date. I purchased a Garmin Nuvi and find it far superior - plus I have lifetime updates!

The mileage is NOT what they claim. Further, the "radar" cruise control is a gas hog - just drove across the US with it on most of the way - poor mileage.

My first Lexus - always been a merc person - luv the car but am disappointed with the hybrid gas mileage and nav database.

very possibly like myself - we wanted to reduce our carbon footprint but still have a safe comfortable car to drive. Please do not say well get a smaller car

I never tell anyone what kind of car they can drive, if you want to drive a Hummer H1 or a Bugatti Veyron that's your choice. I think there is a lot of debate on how much a hybrid reduces the carbon footprint what with all the additional copper, rare earths, and other heavy metals for the batteries but that's a discussion for another thread. Enjoy the hybrid.

JohnPapa, I think you just need to give it some more time and put a little more mileage on your 450h, and I think you'll start to see better results. Like you, I drove a 2007 RX350 gas model, and when my lease was up, I got a 2010 RX350 gas model back in July. I wasn't sure I liked the 2010 so much, because I had really loved my '07! That car really was a smooth-riding car, and quiet. I was frustrated with the gas mileage on the 2010 because, remember, I believe the 2010 models are about 400 pounds heavier than the previous gen models. I knew I wasn't getting the mileage that I was getting on the '07.

But now, five months later, I'm finally satisfied with my 2010, and the gas mileage has gotten better. I don't know that it will ever get as good of gas mileage as the '07 did, but it's close enough. My sister-in-law ended up purchasing my '07 RX. When I was visiting them this past Thanksgiving, I drove the '07(The sister-in-law had had a little too much to drink! LOL!) and I was surprised how small the interior felt compared to my 2010. I remember not liking this at first on the 2010 the first week I drove it. I had felt that the size of the '07 was perfect for me. But now I'm really liking the 2010. So just give it a little more time. The '07 RX is a hard act to follow!
