Default 2010 RX350 versus the 2007

In Sept I got a new 2010 RX, list was $44,750 or so, no nav. Same package as was in my 2007. I was very surprised they took away three things that I really liked in the 2007.
  • Automatic windshield wipers
  • Headlight wipers
  • Elapsed time on the display

I didn't even know I wasn't going to get them. I took them for granted because I told the sales guy "just give the same stuff I have in the 07", and this is what I got.

I'm not sure why they would take these away from the same package. I didn't think I would, but I LOVED and relied on the elapsed time indicator. It was really handy for a lot of things. And, the rain sensing windshield wipers? They should be standard. But, they put in this foolish thing that is supposed to tell you how economical your driving is. Total waste.

I wonder if they did any user testing to determine what options to include. Not having these things has put a damper on what otherwise is a great car.

Bob

PS, I love the ride of the new one, much more "Lexus-like" than the 07.

I agree with you totally. My 07 Avalon has the elapsed time indicator and I thought it was on my 10 RX, but I just haven't found it yet. Also I agree on the eco thing. What a waste.

Headlight wipers or headlight washers? If you were referring to the latter, then the first two items are still available with certain packages. The elapsed time was pretty neat for trips but one feature I can live without. Living around here with all the traffic I don't want a reminder about how long I've been in the car

yeah they just 'force' you to buy more options. clearly your sales person failed you on this one.

You can have my headlight washers. I wouldn't miss the hideous spot on the bumper they make. I have no use for them. I did like all the other things that came with that package.

Cost is the reason these items aren't standard. Always verify exactly what you are getting personally, never trust the salesman. Telling him 'give me the same stuff' is too vague.

My point is that when you buy the same package in the 07 as you do in the 10 you expect to get the same stuff. You don't expect them to take stuff our of a package.

but with every new model, they change the package. for instance, the premium package on the 2gen RX is different than the premium package on the 3gen RX. Partly due to cost, partly due to what people want and what people expect.

Conversely there are a few things Lexus added and made standard (think CD player - yes that was an option on the RX300!) so they giveth and taketh away. Only two packages available back then. RXSF and I should remember that. My, how the RX has changed.

^^ haha when I traded in my 330, I looked at the window sticker. Back in 04, the awd 330 started around 35K! lol oh how times have changed.

I think that's what I paid on my RX300 Here's another one, how about windows on the RX that said Toyota

Getting back on topic, RVH, only elapsed time is no longer available. The auto wipers and headlight washers are part of packages. I did my homework before I placed my special order. Not easy or fun but it's really the only way to ensure you get exactly what you want. Lexus likes to mix things up a bit to keep us on our toes

out of curiosity, is the "trip information" no longer available on the nav screen which shows mpg, instantaneous, and miles traveled? did they remove it because its integrated into the multinformation display?

The only hard part about the special order is trying to find this package or that on a stock car that the sealership has to make sure it is what you want or need to put it in your special order. HUD when the 2010 first came out was hard to find it we had to drive over to New Orleans, 150 miles, to see if it would work for us. We still have not seen the LED headlights at night yet. However, thanks to all the good people on ClubLexus for telling me about how well they work. At the end, you know more about the car than the sales person does when it does shows up. Also that 120 day wait sucks but our new 450h is here in the USA got off the ship on the 14th and should be here in 7 to 10 more days <80 days form deposit to car that is good. This is our second Lexus and our second special order.
