Illuminated door sills and installation instructions

Purchased the Illuminated door sills for the 2010 RX350 from Carson Toyota. Luis said, since they're "replacement" parts, that they don't come with instructions. Does anyone happen to have a website or PDF showing the install? Will this be plug and play or will there need to be wire tapping? Our RX was built in Canada and has Premium, Comfort, Nav and RSES packages.

Thanks!

you got just the front illuminated door sills correct? no rears? can't remember, but was it you that had a heck of a time with lexus installing your lexus japan sills on your GS?

lexus might have the install instructions (or at least how to take them off) since they are not jdm sills. you might need to ask your service advisor. but i'm fairly sure it's definitely not plug and play, will need to wire tap for sure.

yep, that was me. My GS has the Japan sills for all 4 doors. The RX will only have sills for the front doors. Luis ordered the US illuminated sills, as opposed to the Japanese version that are also available. Dealership quoted me $315 for install, so it must not be as easy as I had hoped.

cool. do you know if the jdm RX sills have them for the rear as well? i got front illuminated sills standard on my RX450h, but i'm a little peeved that the rears aren't standard as well. even the RX400h (previous year's hybrid model) had both front/rear illuminated sills. :(

Luis seemed to think they would be out soon, but not available to order yet. The rear door sills on our 350 don't even say Lexus...they're really small, so I'm not going to waste time or money on ones that light up for the rear doors.

Total cost was $450 for the front door sills...$218/door plus $14 shipping. I originally thought he ment $218 for the set, but then I saw the charge on my credit card.

agreed, the rear sills are really small and don't say lexus. but i would think IF the jdm rear sills come out, it would be larger to fit the word 'lexus'.

ouch on the cost! but it does set your RX apart from all the rest. do you know if yours light up blue?

Sorry to budge in, could you chip in the Part number, maybe i can try to source it.

Stormforge 07-08-10 12:00 PM

^ source what? my RX450h comes standard with front illuminated door sills, so i don't need one. jtrue28 just got his, so he's OK. if you're trying to source jdm sills, they are not available yet.

It doesn't show the actual part number on Carson's website, but here's the page:

Illuminated Sills 2010 RX350

if that link doesn't work....

Goto www.l-tunedparts.com
At the top click OEM Parts
Select 2010 Lexus RX350
Select "Pillars Rocker and Floor" on the left side
Interior Trim
Front Sill Plate
US Built with LED Illuminated

I still haven't received the parts yet...shipping out today, so once I receive them, then I can list the actual part number if needed.

This is the instruction manual for the IS200/300 Scuff plate aka " Door Sill" This is normal standard for all, exception will be only on length, But the wiring instructions stand the same for all models. Hope this helps.

got the parts today...here's the part numbers

67910-48070-B0
67920-48070-B0

Obviously one is for the driver door and the other for the passenger door. The B0 part probably signals which color interior....Grey in my instance.

If there are detailed instructions out there, let me know...otherwise I'll suck it up and pay the money for the dealership to do it.

Thanks

your dealership (or your technician who installed your GS sills) is gonna say "not you again!" :D i kid...is there an aftermarket car audio shop that can install this for you? they could probably install it faster than your lexus dealership. just a thought.

You should check the service manual, if it's replacement part, it's in there.

jtrue28 07-15-10 08:44 AM

it's not exactly a "replacement" part. our RX did not come with illuminated scuff plates, like the 450H has. we want to add them, but without taking the old ones off first, it's probably not just plug and play like I'm hoping, otherwise it's a 10 minute job max. I may try to remove the old sill and check for a plug that the new one can plug into.

if the dealership is quoting $315, they must know it's not plug and play and they will have to tap into the dome light. how many hours is that...3? not sure what their hourly rate is, but if three hours that's $105/hour. Seems high, but appropriate for a dealership.

jtrue28 07-15-10 07:27 PM

OK, so I got up the nerve to start pulling the new car apart. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised with what I found...

So once you get the old scuff plate off, which isn't hard...you just have to pull a little, it's just plug and play. Took me 10 minutes to do both doors.

Little tip...make sure you have your dome light set to turn on when you open the door. That was my biggest OH ***** moment...thinking they didn't work. Turns out the dome light switch was off, so no power was going to the plug. I'll get some better pics of the after once it gets darker outside.
