RDX (smaller and thirsty, but in retrospect, at least the voice commands work and the NAV system is up to date), Highlander, Pilot, MDX, FX35, Touareg, Tribeca. Since I'm a gadget guy, I ended up with the RX400h.

Also looked at smaller vehicles, CRV, RAV4, Tiguan, and of course since my last vehicle was an Outback, I also looked at new Outback and Forester.

Speaking of smaller CUVs, my wife just received a 2010 Chevy Equinox as a company car. It wasn't available when I tested the smaller vehicles - 2010 being a new redesigned model. It's the LT AWD, with 18" wheels, and the V6. Having driven the Equinox, I can tell you it would be my choice if I was looking for a compact CUV.

I looked at a Mercedes ML and a BMW X5. I went with the BMW
after test driving it.

My parents looked at either the RX350 or ES350, basing their decision on which one my grandma could get in more easily. She could get in both easily, and my mom felt more comfortable driving the RX350 because she came from a mini-van.

I didn't really look at anything else since I've been happy in my RXs for over 11 years now. When I was at the NY Auto Show last April, I took a look at the Venza, Land Rover, Q5 and Cayenne out of curiousity. But I would not have given them a second glance, except for maybe the Rover

It was the 450h vs. Audi Q5 (Q5 won on being more nimble on the road, and quicker, and close second contender to 450h, but lost out on rear cargo space and fuel economy) The hybrid aspect made it tolerable to get another SUV in the garage line-up. Because after driving a Cayenne Turbo S with many mods the motto rings true "Porsche-There Is No Substitute"

Prior to that we were looking at German sedans for her (S4, 5 series) but then shorty wanted something more 'back friendly" for new baby on the way and car seat, etc.

I have both an RX450h and X5. X5 is far superior IMO. I wanted a 7 series, instead got the Lexus.

Coming out of a 05 RX, and having a 2k RX previous, we were more than a bit disappointed in the new 2010 offering. We tested the Q5 Audi was way to fond of them, the Venza couldn’t get it equipped the way we wanted, FX which was way to pricey when compared with its sibling the Murano, ML to small, too expensive and not very appealing, and finally the Murano. Found that a Murano LE with all the bells and whistles was substantially less in final cost (after negotiations), more than rivaled the RX in appointments and technology, and was a lot more fun to drive. We still stay in the Lexus family with our GS AWD. If Lexus had been a bit more daring in the 10RX, we might well have bought another one.

Drove the Toyota Highlander hybrid as a token effort to appease my wife, but the RX450h was a easy choice. The color however was not...

Test drove a RX450h, was not impressed. Other than it's a hybrid (and a Lexus), nothing really stands out. Still debating to get it or not. it's for the wifey though.

Just going through the process at present:

Audi Q5 (too small)
Audi Q7 (too large)
MB ML350cdi
BMW X5 30d

Leaning towards a 2010 RX350

Just curious, If you feel the X5 is far superior, why didn't you get the X7 instead of the RX450h? Was it price or styling or ?? I never tested the X5, but I sure do like the looks.

There is no such thing as an X7. I was talking about a 750Li. And I didn't get it cause I have a wife.

I knew exactly what I wanted. My Lexus. Will never (shouldn't really say never...) own anything else. To me, there were no options. I think a deal breaker is the loaner. I don't have anyone to call and pick me up or get dropped off so the loaners are nice too.

I have to admit, Lexus loaners are awesome. I was loaned a 2010 ES350, and it was fully loaded. I never had a loaner car with Navigation, Bluetooth, etc. I wish it had an active XM subscription though
