Default B pillar rattle resolution

i've discussed the issue w/ some of you in other threads

for those unaware of the issue, some of us experience a rattle coming from the left of the drivers head

went to dealer who faulted shoulder belt assembly for rattle & replaced it

this did not resolve my problem

after closely listening to the rattle, i found it was coming from just forward of the B pillar in the drivers door

i can feel the door moving around on the highway when i stick my fingers between the door & frame

thought spraying lithium grease on the door seals might remedy the rattle

while doing so i found the real culprit

there's a plastic window shroud/trim piece inside the door

i sprayed some grease on the plastic where i heard the rattle

haven't heard rattle in a week now

felt stickers might be a better solution

==== UPDATE ====

rattle came back, installed come felt stickers from walmart which has kept the rattle away

rattle eventually hit passenger door, so felted it also

Thanks for the tip! This has been annoying me as well.

How hard is it to take the plastic piece off and where did you lubricate?

Great post. Thanks for posting the pic and words on this issue. I don't experience this, but my friend did indicate this issue before... I'll talk to him to check it out.

plastic shroud is easy to remove with minimal force

once you pull it away from the door, you'll see ribbed sections on the top of the shroud

these ribs are what touch the door & are what i lubricated

You're awesome. Thanks again.

I couldn't get the piece off the door without bending/breaking it. However, on the other side (outside looking it the window) there is a thin piece of plastic that clips loosely to this piece. If you peel it away, you can see the ridges and get in there with a can of WD-40. I splattered the three contact points and will listen for noise to see if it worked.

Don't think WD will work too well. Need something a bit more viscous.

Don't have the car so I cant check it out myself, but have you tried to use a small and skinny piece of felt instead?? I would think that would be more permanent sol'n to the problem.

I felt stickered the heck out of this thing and the rattling returns a few days later. I think the process of removing the bezel and snapping it back on is what makes the rattles go away for a bit... not the felt.

there are little ribs on the plastic

i placed felt on the metal part of the door that contacted those ribs

i have not reseated the plastic since installing felt & have not had sound return

Default Door

I too noticed that my doors move around when driving, that's sort of unsettling.
