Default DIY Water Pump

Probably one of my least favorite jobs - but 2GR-FE water pumps keep springing leaks. If you've wondered why mechanics charge so much for this job, when the Aisin pump itself is less than $100....

Sure do hope I never have to do that job on my wife's 2015 RX350. What a hassle....

Our '07 RX350 made it to 250K before the WP sprung a leak. I didn't enjoy that job.

I'm knockin off early today to go home and tackle the WP on our '15 RX 350 with only 140K. It doesn't leak, but sounds like the bearing is full of broken glass.

Looks like a lot of work.

The previous owner of our RX got a new water pump with a $5,000 oil leak service at 83,000 miles. That was four years and 25,000 miles ago. I guess it's time to change the coolant.

Done.

Took from 2:30-9:30. Had a half hour dinner break. Also had the daughter's three tiny terrorists, all boys 5 and under"helping" me.

The water pump itself is easy. It's getting to it that sucks.

And my 150k miles coolant looked exactly like the brand new stuff I dumped in.

There is a thin manual in the glove box titled Service and Warranty. Even if you take your vehicle to dealer for regular service [where they log the service in their nation wide system] Please make entries in your book. Then you will never miss out on time/milage based service item by item. I also make entries for extra services and upkeep like replaced tires/brake pads etc.

Good advice.

Fortunately, the previous owner kept a file folder of all the Lexus service/repair invoices. We'll continue to do the same using outside shop..
