There is a knocking sound from the driver's front strut area.
What could cause this? There is nothing obviously loose, or visibly broken,
Strut bearing or bumper?
If you have never replaced your front upper shock mounts, that is typically the issue. Your factory ones have long since degraded. Search this forum using "front shock mount replacements" as your search phrase and read all about it, including where to obtain the best replacements....
You may as well replace the struts at the same time because the labor is the same. To replace the strut mounts, or the struts, they have to be removed from the vehicle, then placed into a spring compressor to safely take it apart. Once apart it is only a few more minutes labor to replace the entire strut vs just the mount or its bearing. Given your mileage, get some new struts. You will need an alignment afterwards.
I assume you will have a shop do all this work so will not go into further detail on the procedure. Any independent car repair shop can do this simple to them job as struts suspensions are the same on every make, have been around for over 50 years and they have all done thousands of these jobs.
Pass on using ''quickstruts'' the struts w/ springs........Get a pr of KYB's & use your oem springs & I'd use the Toyota oem strut mounts. I've had issues w/ the KYB strut mounts on varies vehicles. And of course get a 4 wheel alignment, as anytime you remove the struts you'll need to do a alignment. Basically setting the front & rear toe as well as the thrust angle.
