Good day all i have a 2007 rx350 awd 78k miles that at times when coming to a slow stop i fell the abs engage /activate? Its just a split second pulse
I have no codes or the vsc light triggering either just a split second or 2 where that drop of brake pedal gives the impression that you about to lose your brakes ??
i have seen prices and btands all over the place i rather get the oem specfic ones
I would remove and clean them first, careful the rears like to get stuck. Scan tool with live data test will indicate which sensor is acting up, it could also be a tone wheel as well which I had to do on my Highlander (same symptoms you are describing - no codes). Tone wheel is cheap $10 part but it was a big job and took me a few hours.
Aisin ABS sensors on Rockauto are the exact OEM Japan-made part for a fraction of the price. The front tone wheels from my 2002 Highlander are identical to the RX ones.
Thank you much for the reply hopefully that may and or should solve the issue other than its a perfect running car 78k on the body 200 miles on the engine.
At several sites it appears that they always ask for location of my where my car is made hopefully the Aisin made are the ones for my model regardless of Japan made or Canade
it seems everywhere most vendors have the Aisin part but for the rear only?
i believe on my car it works the same as abs and vss in the rear i believe i may need just the front which seems nobody stocks the Aisin brand hopefully i can find them Rockauto also onlh had for the rear
Oh yeah, I’ve also mix & matched the sensors and the country of origin or model does not matter at all, I’m not sure why they even bother indicating that. I’ve even tried the front & rear sensors on my RX for my Highlander despite different part numbers. They have the same resistance values when measured and work the same as well based on live data readouts.
The fronts from Aisin are not available I believe. When one of my fronts failed I just put in a cheap no-name, it’s working fine years later. Check 2001-2007 Highlander or 2004-2009 RX front ones maybe Aisin makes one somewhere for the front.
I would clean and get a live data readout first before changing the sensors. You need a high end scan tool that can access the ABS module and then you must look at the FL, FR, RL, RR wheel speed readings while you drive. This kind of situation requires some pretty decent diag or else you will be wasting your time and money. There are too many variables to consider and the parts are expensive.
Thank you so much again i been reviewing for several hours and cant find the aisin front so ill have to give up and do a read time review hoping its the front
Hopefully it is the front, the rears are annoying to change, they get stuck in the knuckle and you almost need to take the rear seats out to replace them, not a fun time.
my scanner doesnt have live read for ABS but does store and capture faults apparently these are the faults they show but the abs light is not on, i reset the stored faults and drove for 25-40 mins and i still have that low speed abs activation going on when coming to a stop but atleast its narrower it down to front right now the odd part most vendor dont have it in stock and its double and triple the left hand side lol I have seen as much as 385 close to dealer price.
well i am going to try to remove and clean and reinsert i hope this will stop giving false info or out of range to trigger the abs
Good stuff! I had the same codes too they're just generic apart from the sensor-specific code. I would remove RH ABS sensor and check with multi-meter to see if there is any resistance between the two contacts, if there is none you'll know the sensor is toast. If it reads fine, I would clean it then look behind the knuckle to see if the tone wheel/ring is bent. If the sensor reads fine the tone wheel is likely clogged or bent like mine was. I used the Dorman one from Rockauto working great 1+ years later.
EDIT:
If the sensor is not showing any resistance and needs replacement, the NTK AB1633 looks pretty legit but is a little pricey at around 120 bucks. Every NTK product I have bought has been made in Japan like its OE counterpart. This one has the copper terminals like OE whereas the rest are aluminum. STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS ALS766 looks like a good budget option w/ copper terminals and is about half the price, it's for 2001-2003 Highlanders but will work fine. The tone ring is DORMAN 917552.
Thanks again for the update!!!!! I ordered the NYK/NGK since I have used alot of their parts in the pasts and the quality is on par or not its OEM for many Asian cars
I have searched many websites vendors and actually went to 2 legit Lexus dealers here in NY and they cannot find a front tone ring for my 2007 lexus or any similar model, the last tone ring they have in their system is for 2000 rx 300 lol unreal, I see when iIwent to purchase from amazon the dorman 917-552 it claims it won't fit my vehicle odd maybe the awd id different from the fwd ??
Rockauto didnt have it listed either only like all vendors only for the rear tone ring
yea man some sites have the front abs sensor I need (rh) for 3 to 5 times the opposite side ??? left vs right how?? maybe the wiring harness ???
AWD and FWD is the same, that Highlander tone ring should fit the car. When I had my RX CV axle out, it measured the same as the Highlander one and had the same amount of splines in it, that's also why all 2001-2007 Highlander and 2004-2009 RX front ABS sensors are interchangable. Most of the parts on both my RX350 and Highlander aren't even made for the car, but Toyota keeps the architecture the same in most cases. That Amazon fitment system is a total crapshoot too, sometimes it says parts that won't fit will, and parts that will fit won't.
yea i saw that, I purchased it as an investment it was only 9$ on Amazon and being delivered tmrw hopefully i am trying to get a good angle underneath the front knuckle without having to left or take the tire off damn 35 degrees with wind blowing here in NY feels like 20 lol
I believe in there infinite wisdom that toyota/lexus figured the part is so cheap that its included in the cv shafts ??
Yep, when I bought new rear CV axles to convert my 2002 Highlander to 2004-2007 Highlander rear suspension, the tone rings were included. Thankfully it's not like a friend's Dodge Journey where they built the ring into the wheel bearing, that should be illegal lol. I had an easier time turning the wheel to get in there. Thankfully changing the ring itself is very easy but getting to it is a bit of a disaster. I think part MFRs are missing out on a lot of money by not listing their parts as fitting as many cars as they really do, but I also see a lot of the opposite where parts that don't fit are listed as being compatible.
Thank you again!!!! I borrowed my friends air bag jack and removed the wheel and used the ntk version from rock auto everything fit like oem
The low speed abs activation is gone my friends reader was showing no activity from it as my code was the same side as circuit issue possibly due to recent inner outter tire rod work the mechanic probably kinked the cable
Again thank you for the assistance
