Default Adding CARPLAY to Lexus

Hi everyone. I just installed this GROM unit into my 04 Lexus RX330 and after a few issues, its working pretty darn good. It maintains all the original functionality but adds carplay and android auto.

in use (not my video)

I also have this on my RX. Is your screen resolution pretty bad?
the streets/text is illegible in some apps.

I would say the video quality is about VHS level at best. Not too great for $500+ system.

I have vline2 for my LS460 w the 5th gen NAV, and it looks about 25 times better. Hence, I would recommend vline for 2007+ RX owners

yes, the screen quality is not great, but you are bound by a 20 year old touchscreen, it is what it is. It at least brings some modern functionality to a 20 year old car. It gets the job done and the wife is happy with the upgrade. Considering my 04 Rx330 only has 70,000 miles and it totally mint its saving me money on a new car!...lol

agreed. It gets the job done. Especially if your cd player and NAV player are both out of order. Where did you end up hiding the unit? I just stuck it on the passenger side footwell with Velcro.

fHello - I installed the unit in a 2007 RX 350. The backukp camera in my vehicle works - it goes from the VLine screen to the camera, but then when I put it back in drive it goes back to the factory Lexus screen and I have to hit the audio button to make it go back to the Vline screen again. Do I need to connect the purple reverse cable to something? Does yours work 100% after the install?

We've added support for this in the latest updates. Should be available via OTA in few days. You will lose the MAP/DEST buttons for factory Nav though.
To enable go to Sandwich -> Settings -> Return to VLine after Reverse

At a cost of double what I paid for an entirely new double din head unit with rear backup camera, XM ready, not sure how this is a cost-effective alternative.

I've got full Android Auto, reverse camera, all usable apps and such from my phone including YouTube,I've got my 56GB micro chip so access to most all my music, bluetooth connection with my phone including voice texting

I think it’s a personal preference. Pro and cons of both options. Grom looks factory standard. Double din looks like Temu special.

While I like the clearer screen of double din, I couldn't imagine looking down low to look at Google maps.

Yes it disables factory Nav while in VLine. Switch to AM/FM for that button to work again.

I like that.
For the future, possibly, it would be killer if the MAP/DESTINATION button brings up the default nav app in Grom mode
