Where to get service instructions?
 

Hey everyone,

We just bought a 2009 RX 350. Where do you all go to understand basic service procedures? I'm wanting to replace all of the fluids: engine oil, transaxle fluid, transfer case oil, rear differential oil, brake fluid, power steering, coolant, etc. I bought the Lexus Repair Manual for the vehicle, but some of these things aren't clarified in this manual. Is there a different manual I should look for?

You can get all that info right here in the forum.
With a simple search, you can find plenty of posts with detailed experiences and images for all the things you listed.
And you can ask questions for whatever you can't find on the forum.

The owner's manual will tell you the kind of fluids needed for the things like brakes, power steering, engine coolant, etc. Only down side is that the info is not all together in one chart, you have to go to different pages for each maintenance item.

For example, the alphabetical index for the 2009 RX shows maintenance data as being page # 422. Page 422 starts with general specifications for the vehicle. Page 425 is where the info on fluids starts and you have to scroll down (or flip pages if you have the paper manual) to the specific one you are after.

Note to everyone regarding the page numbers I have referenced. These page numbers only apply to the current 2009 owners manual. The manual for all other years will probably be different. And... if you have the paper owner's manual that came with the car, the page numbers will probably also be different. Lexus makes changes to the manual, so the on-line version will be arranged a little differently. As an example, there have been 4 revised manuals for my 12007 to what came with my car.

Thank you! I'll work between the two manuals to figure things out. How do you go about finding part numbers?

The fastest way I do it is go on Rock Auto and look under their selection of parts for our RX. Then I'll google the part numbers to cross reference those numbers for Toyota part numbers if I want to buy genuine OEM.

But if, for example, you search here for "Rear Differential Fluid Change," you'll find threads with posts detailing the torque settings and part numbers/fluid you'll need.
