Default Steering wheel u-joint play? Symptoms?

Hi everyone, how goes it? I was curious to know what are some of the symptoms of steering wheel ujoint play? Is it more "clunking noise? Steering wheel play? Is there an easy way to test this out? If there is play in the joint, is there a fix for it, or a complete change of the shaft? Will spraying lithium grease help?
thanks

The problem with the steering u-joint is that the u-joint freezes up and then the steering becomes difficult. I suppose you could take it out, soak it in oil for a day or two, tap the ends for a zerk fitting, grease it up and return it to service. I didn't have the down time available so I paid the too high price for a new one.

The u-joint doesn't always freeze up. It may also just get too much wear and become loose and sloppy. In this situation, you will be getting clunking noises and may even feel it in the steering wheel. you will probably also notice excessive steering wheel play.

If either u-joint in the steering column goes bad, you will have to replace the lower steering column, replacement parts don't seem to be available.
