Default Factory head unit

2007 rx350 w factory head unit and speakers. Display has gone out also can’t turn power on and off but volume does work and so does tuning with the tuning **** but preset buttons don’t work. What does this sound like and does it sound like it’s repairable or is it time for a new head unit?

I would shoot for a used one or go full aftermarket with CarPlay/Android Auto. Very few places do repairs and a new one (if you can even find one) would be dumb expensive.

Well I don’t do CarPlay etc as I always listen to Sirriusxm in the car as I love the music channels w no ads. So I think I might invest in a head unit once I get funds to do so. But I was told I can’t do it be the factory one is tied into the climate controls etc and if I do that car might not start?

I've seen numerous members on here install aftermarket double din's no problem, there is a trick to do with the climate controls but it's well documented. I recall if you have Mark Levinson then it needs an expensive adapter but otherwise straightforward. Never heard it would brick the car from starting.

A lot of aftermarket double din's are XM ready so no worries on that. Hope you enjoy XM, they keep bothering me to signup since I bought my NX (came with free 3 months) even though I tell them I use Spotify and SoundCloud to stream.

I can’t exactly tell from that thread but what do I need to keep the climate controls working?

It says the bypass module isn’t needed for navigation units? Well do they mean factory nav or aftermarket head units with nav?

You need to jump a resistor between two wires or else the climate controls stop working. Let me see if Metra harnesses still has that guide.

The bypass is for the aftermarket unit. All aftermarket units need to run a parking brake wire so it can lockout when you are driving to prevent distraction, Pioneer is wonky how it senses that wire so it needs a relay. This bypass is also for video in motion but know that is illegal and for off road use only.

Well it sounds at the moment like im just gonna have to wait til I get the money to fix it as putting a new aftermarket system in is gonna run like 700ish something because there are a bunch of wiring harnesses etc that need to be run/wired and installed. Thing that bites is I will have no climate control since they are tied into the head unit controls. That also goes for just getting the head unit fixed which is gonna still run 225. So I just have to deal with it as is. The display isn’t out permanently but it goes out randomly.
