Can someone please point out where the inlet for the cabin air filter is located?
I have a rodent making a mess on top of my cabin air filter and want to try and block the inlet with a wire mesh. Today I found a handful of white sound deadening insulation on top of the filter again. I thought I had rid the world of that little !@#$%, but I guess not. Where does the system pull air in from for the filter?
The rest of the viewable engine bay is fine. I removed those covers as soon as I bought it last year.
Does anyone know a likely entrance to that section of the cabin filter box? Do the 2 metal openings in the firewall underneath the passenger side cowling pull air in? I had the A/C on high, but couldn't feel a vacuum from those openings just now. It has to pull air in from the cowl area, right? I bet the mouse is climbing up the drainage hole in that area.. I also bet I can affix a glue trap in there tonight...

Yes, it pulls from the cowl. There must be some way this rodent is getting into the void behind your cowl/firewall. Maybe some kind of repellent spray would be better than a trap. You don't want it to die in there. We use peppermint oil based spray at work to repel squirrels from over activity in the attic spaces, etc. Check online, that may work for rodents too.
I got crafty yesterday and attached some wire mesh over the intake openings. The hardest part was removing the wiper arms. I ended up buying a removal tool and using a rubber hammer to pop them loose.
Dirty!
This is a flexible wire mesh from any big box home improvement store. Wire snips make it easy-peasey.
I used a few sheet metal screws after pre-drilling pilot holes.
I went ahead and did the engine intake while I was at it. Our Honda had a pile of acorns on top of the intake filter recently, so I did this same thing to it.

Ummhh! I noticed some Rodent droppings and nuts shells junk on my silver engine cover above when I raised the hood. So I cleaned it off and used cockroach spray all around (That’s all I could find handy) 🤓
I checked the next day and the f***er had done it again 😱
Loss at what to do, I’ve parked in the garage now hoping the freeloader will mosey on.
After looking at your creative meshwork I’m wondering if Mickey has snuck into my house. Lol.
