I won the Crash Competition!
I was driving my 2006 RX330 home the other night, stopped at a Stop sign on a residential street, and had just started moving again when I was rear-ended at what felt like full speed. (The posted limit was 25mph, and he reacted with only enough time to nosedive and swerve slightly.)
When we both pulled over and I got out, the first thing I saw was the front of his car, a Mazda 3. It was bad. His grill was cracked in half, his license plate was literally torn, his hood was folded up and back, and his right side bumper and fender were pushed in about six inches. I turned to examine the back of my own car, expecting the worst.
I had to look twice. My rear bumper was a bit deformed, there was some marring on the plastic, the rear left marker light was pushed in about an inch but still operational. I later learned that the rear left hitch was also pushed up and forward about half an inch.
His insurance covered everything, 100% his fault, no contest. I kind of feel sorry for the guy... But hey, the Stop sign is plainly visible from more than a block away and I'm in a big white car with bright red tail lights all over the back of it. How the hell...? (He didn't seem to be drunk or drugged.)
The point being... I have never before seen such a disparity in vehicle damages in a two-car crash. If I had any affection left for small, light cars, it's gone now.

Glad you're unharmed
KMB,
First let me say I'm glad you are safe and no one was injured. Cars can be replaced.
I'm sure the other driver was on his cell phone or the like. This is the reason I hung up my spurs and sold my motorcycle years ago. Imagine you're on a bike and the distracted driver plows into you. Yes, he may well be on his way to jail, but meanwhile you're on your way to the hospital or the morgue. I need some metal around me to feel safe, so +1 for giant gas guzzling cars with airbags and crumple zones.
Glad you're safe.

Glad you are ok! Make sure to check the rear door closes and locks cleanly have the suspension checked out including a full alignment (should be covered by his insurance)
