When in park the reverse lights and back up camera come on

Car in park but reverse camera is on
Hey guys,
I have a 2004 Rx300 (UK) a second Gen.
I have a strange problem where when the car is in park the reverse lights and the camera come on as if the car is in reverse.
The car isn't in reverse gear but the lights seem to indicate that it is in both park and reverse.

​​​​​same thing happens if I put the car in reverse ... both the P and R are lit up in the dash.
what could be my problem?

There is a switch on the automatic transmission called the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION switch. Perhaps this is failing.

I believe it is adjustable, though it may also need to be cleaned.
