330/350 Camera Controller interchangeability with 400h Parking Assist Controller
I'm looking into adding the OEM backup camera from an 04/05 330 or 350 into my 300. I've reviewed the wiring diagrams and see no reason it wouldn't work. The Gen4 nav system is already confirmed to work with the 300, and the camera controller from a 330/350 just plops between the multidisplay and the nav unit. Seems fine to me.
The problem is the camera controllers for the 330/350 aren't the easiest find (P/N 86792-48051 or 86792-48050). There are many more available for the 400h (P/N 86792-48101).
The 400h, however, is not just a relay box for the video feed. It's a parking assist controller. It connects to a local CANBUS that takes input from a steering wheel sensor to overlay the path of the car on the feed. The 300/330/350 do not have steering wheel sensors, and the therefore the 330/350 camera controllers do not connect to the CANBUS.
I've seen some dodgy ebay listings that suggest the 400h parking assist controller is compatible with the 330/350. Does anyone know if that's correct? E.g. -
Has anyone used a 400h parking assist computer in a 330/350?
If the connection to the CANBUS for the 400h is disconnected, will it still switch the feed in reverse?
Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

That’s odd. Makes me wonder what the hell video I was watching then. Might it be possible they put the connections in there and didn’t implement it till the gen5 / hi res models? I have no idea
The diagram I was looking at said it’s for an 04 though, so the question about the interchangeability of the parts would still seem appropriate to me anyways.

here is the camera wiring diagram for a 2007 RX. It does not show any controller for the camera. It shows the CANBUS being connected to the display unit/
I'm guessing here, but since the 2nd generation RX has the original style steering using a pump and hydraulic fluid, it may not have any sensors to feed the navigation display with the car's angle. Starting in 2010, the 3rd gen RX has electric servo steering, so it has sensors that can feed the navigation screen with the car's position.

My turn to guess - I suspect that’s from a Gen 5 nav 400h. I’ve attached the diagram I’ve seen for 06/07’s, which seemed to me to have pinouts consistent with Gen4 nav units. You can see the CANH/CANL connection which goes to a junction with like 8 things wired in (all of which are on a separate CANBUS diagram). You are correct though, the camera / park assist controller only lists as compatible on the 06 and some 07 400’s per Toyota.
