Default center console: piece of metal .. ?

hello :-) i just bought an '09 RX350 & found something interesting in the center console ... the "tray" (that slides the length of the console, but does NOT lift out) has an interesting indentation with a metal piece... on the side, near the bottom ... anyone know what that is?

Do you have a picture of the metal piece?

I recently discovered mine sliding. It was a pleasant find. Not sure whats the purpose of sliding though. haha

... yes, i finally discovered that the insert DOES lift out of the center console (if you squeeze the sides in) ... and also discovered that the little piece is plastic (instead of metal) and it also slides out, revealing a tiny tri-parted space underneath ... now i'm even MORE curious - what is this FOR?! ~lol~ anyone?!

(disregard the water spots on the clear plastic piece, i had just washed it)

Yes, the manual described that tray on page 131. It says "To remove the adapter tray inside the box, pull it up."

It has no additional reference to that tray. That clear plastic thing under the bottom is interesting. It appears that it is some sort of tool. Otherwise, why go through the trouble of manufacturing it? If you remove it, does the tray still sit inside the console box properly ?

Hi, maybe there is a bulb somewhere that shines onto that piece to refract the light and illuminate the contents..?

Ha. That sounds very logical. I think that would make the most sense, kinda to direct the light into the bottom of the cubby. Need to check this out at night.

That clear plastic is to refract the LED light through the tray in the center console. At night you can see it working. It's a pretty neat little detail.

hmmmm ... ok, i'm gonna check it out tonight! ... of course, it's near the bottom of the console, so i might have to remove some things in order to see the light (oh, is that a metaphor? *lol*)

thanks Carfan!! (how'd you know / find out this info?!)
