Mobil-1 5W-30 Oil & Mobil 1 M1-102 Oil Filter

I think you mistook my point. It's not that there are "additives to help "absorb" fuel" but rather that additives that result in less fuel being removed (by whatever chemical mechanism).
Please don't misunderstand me. It's not about calibration. It's about the set up, and things like the chromatographic medium used and the solvent system used. The set up is based in part on what is likely to be in the sample to be tested and what is to be resolved (detected). This can be tricky if the contents of the sample aren't known (such as with proprietary oil formulations). The GC set up you use is probably set up correctly, but that doesn't mean it can't miss.
Free Le Mans coverage is on youtube. Less complicated than going to France.

What do you mean by less fuel being removed? As in removed by evaporation?

Yes, modern fuels and oil stick to each other, why the whole driving 2 hours on the highway will burn off fuel in the crank case doesn't really work as much as people think. I'll hopefully have an answer on our GC graph from the RLI oil.
I thought toyota was going to win, bummer.

mylex,
the answer from the tribologist is the baseline needs to be corrected as it's likely reading the corn base stock. It doesn't mean the result is inaccurate, just the baseline would need to be corrected. He referred me to a GC chemist, as I can barely understand ours(language barrier). He did say his lab has had the same issue before, but they didn't bother adjusting.
Trying to get a better answer.
