Default '07 RX350 throwing codes, please help

My girlfriend and I purchased a 2007 Lexus RX350 a couple months ago that has about 30,000 miles on it. Yesterday, she drove home from work to my parents to pick up our daughter with no issues but, when she started the car to leave it threw a CEL along with a VSC light and Traction control light. Now the car shudders while parked and the idle fluctuates. I had it scanned and it threw the following codes:

C1201 - ABS
P0015 - Exahust Cam Position Timing Over Retarded
P0017 - Crank Position Corr Bank 1 Sensor B
P0300 - Misfire Random
P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire
P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire
P0305 - Cylinder 5 Misfire

Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Thank you for any help!!

Your Bank 1 coil packs need replaced. These vehicles are notorious for them failing. Coil packs hook up to the spark plugs down in the engine and provide the electrical connection from your ignition to light the plug. When they fail, misfires will be detected. Bank 1 is worse as it is on the back (firewall) side of the engine. Some of the cowl, wipers, etc have to be removed to access them. Check youtube for videos on how to do it, or take it in to have it done. When replacing the back coils, go ahead and do the spark plugs too as it will save you from going back in there later. Plugs are a 100k mileage replacement, but while its open, do it now. 30k miles? Wow that's low. If I had to guess, your car was likely in the city and idling alot and driving short distances, this heats up the coils over time and they fail. Most have it happen around 70k, but all 07's I've seen have had replacement coils. Dont sweat it, it's normal. Once you get them replaced, codes will reset and car will be good as new.

Thumbs up

90919-A2004 is the part number for coils if you want to take it on yourself or google it to see.

BlackLexRX is onto something but I don't think it's just the coil pack. Misfires on all cylinders for a bank can't just be from one coil although I wouldn't brush off all 3 ignition coils having issues.

I've only see this twice for Toyota's but a possible cause is a failure of the oil control valve for the VVTi system. There are suppose to be 4 for the 2GR-FE engine the 350's use. With failure of 1 or more of the valves you throw off VVTi which could explain why you have misfires and timing over retarded. Worse part is it is the rear bank which is harder to access versus the front.

Hope this helps.

Worth a look for sure, and that's the beauty of these forums- knowledge. I just know that 07 coils were junk, particularly Canadian sourced ones. Part number I gave are new coils after 2 revisions.

I would concur that all three coils failing on the same bank is pretty unlikely. Your symptoms sound an awful lot like an oil control valve failure, that's what I would pursue first.

Yeah, looks like the test for the oil control valves is pretty simple, wouldn't hurt to check it and Toyota did create an inspection procedure for them: http://workshop-manuals.com/lexus/rx...nt_inspection/

I would also check and make sure the oil tube recall was performed. You may be loosing pressure....
