Default Akebono or Sumitomo Brakes?

Greetings, So awhile back I bought my 09 RX350 from a small dealership, They replaced the brakes prior to selling it to me. It was decent and knowing smaller dealers they won't buy expensive brakes. Its been a year now and the brakes are making noise already.

My question is, how are SUMITOMO brake feels compared to their Akebono? I used Akebono in the past on my RX300 and absolutely love it. The stopping power is amazing. Are Sumitomo the exact same or should I stay with Akebono. I understand they are both OEM but just want to know for sure before spending $200 on all 4 pads.

Thanks

Ge

FWIW I've had great luck w/Akebono pads and Centric premium rotors, my new go to combo. Sorry, I can't comment on Sumitomo pads though. Good luck.

Akebono supplies more of OEM's for Japanese cars. I would vote Akebono.

why not just OEMs? You can buy them online for prices similar or little more than Akebono. Is the consensus that Akebonos are better than OEM?

Akebono and Sumitomo is OEM, My brother can get akebono super cheap through his work place. I just want to see if anyone tried sumitomo yet. Some dealers sell Sumitomo brakes instead of Akebono. If you look for the marking on the pad if its AK thats Akebonos, if you see Sumitomo marking thats Sumitomo.

Atleast for my es300, the aftermarket Akebono would not take the oem shim kit is what I read on online reviews. Hence I bought toyota pads, which are also probably made by Akebono. There could sometimes be a difference between toyota pads vs aftermarket akebono looks like.

I just installed a set of sumitomo brake pads (came from a family member who sold his LS before installing them) on my 1998 LS400 - the old pads "crystallized" and while still working, didn't have the "bite". Sumitomos, which are metallic material, are great. Car feels like it has new brakes (which it does)

My next pair will be Akebonos on my LX470 - I figured $100 for a set is worth it, besides repair shop would charge me more for whatever brand they use so why not use the "best"?

I am dying to upgrade my brake pads and rotors. unfortunately I have more than 1/2 of the brake pads left in the front, despite my race track hard stopping on the street, lol.

I will try the EBC slotted rotors and green pads, when the time comes.
