Question Drive side rear seat stuck in the down position

Anyone have this problem? Put the driver side rear seat down and now it won't come back up. It feels as though the latch isn't connected yet I can see the cable wrapped on it still. Need to tear into it... do the backs of the seats pop off?

Suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

I think the seat folding is disabled if the seat forward/rear adjustment is not all the way rearward. Pull up on the bar at the base of the seat and see if you can get it to slide back. If that does not work, pull the carpet up at the bottom of the seat back. There is a cable in there that disables the seat fold down. Perhaps it is stuck on something. It has been a few years since I took all of this apart for cleaning so I may not be 100% correct on this.

Thanks for the reply. It wasn't an issue with the seat track being forward or back. I took apart the backing and appears as thought the cable from the latch to the lower control lock has stretched. When using the latch the cable was not pulling enough to unlock the mechanism. When I removed the latch and used pliers to pull the cable it would unlock. I have a new cable on order and will install later this week and see how it goes.

on my 04 highlander the cable would unlatch from the lever , down in the seat hinge area, this unlatching was caused by one of the little wing ends breaking off, and the cable comes loose, weak material used (pot metal) or too small-- I will get a new cable from the u pick place when they get a 04 highlander in, they dont get many

2 screws on the backrest plastic pieces that are visible and use a shim tool to pry off several push type fasteners somebody needs to post a short tutorial
