Vibrating steering wheel while braking at high speed
Hello,
I own an 08 Rx350 at 70k miles now. This is my first car ever; my parents bought it brand new and gave to me as gift after I graduated from college. I try to take good care of it; whatever the dealership tells me to replace, I replace it. I follow the maintenance schedule and owners guide to a T. I never really paid attention when my parents drove this car...but I don't know why my car vibrates when I get maybe above 60 mph and try to apply the brake. I do not brake hard and now I pretty much avoid applying brake and just let it glide. Is this normal? Whenever I visit the dealership they do a complete check up. All the check up results are normal;nothing wrong with tire trims, brake pads, suspension etc. I'm not a car expert.... I'm just a recent college grad who wants to give her first lexus a good life . Any suggestions will help.
Thanks

I agree, usually indicates warped rotors. If you can do the brakes yourself you'll save a good bit of money. You can usually find front OEM rotors & pads for about $250. online.

Easy fix, yes you will either need to re-surface the rotor (or get new ones) and replace pads (highly suggest). Any local Toyota dealer will do this for less. Problem fixed.

Thanks everyone - I guess without a doubt it would be the rotors then. I will probably replace them when my brake pads needs to be replaced too.

I you have vibration do not wait for your pads to wear out, in fact if the pads are good, keep them and get the rotors turned. However pads are that expensive. Just do it. Then you have peace of mind.

Have this problem with my car. Just had a full brake service done at Toyota not more than 2 years 20K miles ago and my front rotors are warped again. I'm going to DIY this time around. would i be ok with replacing the rotors and not replacing the pads? they still have lots of life left in them

Toyota is a good solution but still alot of money but if you are planning to keep yours for a long time. I would recommend buying parts at Autozone their Gold level life time pads and rotors. Meaning buy it once and they warranty it for life of your car. All you are out is labor on the next go around where they give you new pads and rotors when you bring in your receipt. Best deal!

I've never had warped rotors in 50 yrs driving with a simple trick: Never stop the car after heavy braking leaving the brake pedal mashed down. Lighten up on the brake pedal and let the car inch forward a bit while waiting for the light to change and you will not get concentrated hot spots on the rotors. Simple and it works for me!
