help needed to identify rear door weatherstripping
I own a 2004 RX330 and just opened the right rear door to find this piece of rubber weatherstripping torn and ready to fall off. See picture. Can someone please help me:
a) identify the correct part number
b) give me some instructions on how to replace it myself
I replaced both sides on my 2005 RX 330. Part numbers were 75707-0E010 and 75708-0E010, as shown on the drawing from the previous post and on my invoice. The rubber weather stripping is attached to the moulding and forms a single part.
The removal involves pulling back (just a bit) the rubber weather stripping for the door at the top corner of the door. There's a plastic rivet that holds it in place and didn't need to be replaced. Once the weather stripping is pulled back a bit you'll see a screw that holds the top of the moulding in place. That screw needs to be removed and it's the only screw holding the moulding in place. The moulding is also held in place with double sided tape, which makes the removal a bit tricky. Mine broke in the removal process which was OK since it wasn't being reused anyway. The moulding could otherwise be slid up and out. I used adhesive remover to get rid of the old residue. The installation of the new moulding involved new double sided tape, which I first adhered to the moulding first and then slowly peeled it back as I slid the new moulding down and into place. Then it's just a matter of putting the screw at the top in and the weather stripping back in place. Hopefully this is pretty clear. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures during the process.
Update. I decided to not take on the job of replacing the part. Instead I got a thick black rubber sheet and 3m exterior double sided tape rated to 15 lbs.
Cut a strip of the rubber sheet at about 1/2 inch wide, added tape and used it to reinforce the falling strip of rubber from the back side.
Worked great and it is only visible from opening the rear door and looking at that strip. Highly unlikely.
The failing strip on the part is really only as a cosmetic between the front and rear doors when viewed from the side and to keep dust away from the B pillar. I'll probably change the part if this repair fails.
I just did this per JLSC's instructions, and it was an easy job. After removing top screw, I used a razor knife to cut the adhesive along the length of the old trim piece, as I pulled it away from the door. For info, the part number on mine from the dealer was P/N 75708-48011 (Driver Side Rear Door 2006 RX330). Cost was 80.08, but they reduced to 72.07 because they jacked me around a bit trying to get the right part. Also, my plastic rivet holding the inner weather stripping down broke as I removed, so will need to replace
I have a 2007 RX 350 Lexus. The weatherstripping on the right rear door was falling off. I did not replace it myself but with the information I found on this sight (multiple threads) I feel I could have. But, as a female senior, I had Lexus do it. The total for the job including tax was $281.41. The part number for the weatherstrip is 75707-0e010. The part cost was$138.58 including tax. I found the part on a web sight for about $80 with shipping costs of $10. Rather steep shipping!! Hope this helps someone.
