Default Sunroof issues

Sunroof is off track and stuck open less than 1/4 inch.

Took it to the Lexus dealer today and was told that I needed to replace the motor and wires, as well as assembly, to the tune of 2300 dollars. While I was expecting some expense, that is a bit more than I have. At this point I don't care if I ever get to use the sunroof again, but I need it closed since we are entering our rainy season.

Is there any way to manually close it? I have clear silicon and duct tape to seal it up if not.

Also, any ideas to reduce the cost to fix or replace it?

Please help!

Welcome to CL, comel. I moved your thread over to the 2nd gen RX forum since you have a 2007. Sorry to hear about your moonroof. Try a search in this forum. Otherwise I'm sure a few members here will have suggestions for you. Good luck.

actually it's the labor that's expensive, not the parts. If you can find someone (not a dealer) that does this, you should find someone in your area.

you can manually close the sunroof. Remove 4 torx screws that are attached to the glass and pull the brackets by hand ALL THE WAY to the front then reinstall the glass. Risks: Leak may occur as you won't know by hand whether the roof is fully closed in which case you may need silicon to seal.

There are places that close broken sunroof this and they might be a better bet.

my experience. My parents' camry had the same issue and toyota dealer wanted $1,500. I closed it myself but there were leaks so I took it to a place to finish what I couldn't do. $30.

hope this helps.
