Thanks everyone for the comments. I'm more concerned about burning and losing oil than I am about how dirty it gets. The engine survived as far as I can tell from the neglected oil change intervals and lack of maintenance. I'm sure the seals are worn, how else would it be losing oil. After cleaning the combustion chamber thru the vacuum line and using a few cans of injector cleaner and cleaning the MAF sensor, the motor pulls smooth and strong. I hope the mobile 1HM will take care of some of the oil loss, 1/4 qrt after 2k miles. I'm comfortable with 10k oil change interval given how clean the engine looks. But i know it can survive a 15k oil change if needed.

We have a Mercedes, purchased with only 10K at the Mercedes dealership, since day 1 oil changes are every 12K miles; Mobil 1 0-40W. In the beginning I thought that it was a little extreme to go that much without an oil change, over the years I have gotten used to changing the oil every 12K miles. The car has now 85,000 miles on it, in between oil changes engine burns 1/3 of a quart of oil, almost nothing.

In the long run full synthetic oil has its merit.

I am still kicking the idea around if I want to push our 05 RX330 to at least 10,000 miles between oil changes. I am using Mobil 1 5-30W full synthetic oil. Perhaps in the next oil change I am going to use Mobil 1 5-30W full synthetic for high mileage vehicles, the car has now 93,000 miles. Amazingly no oil consumption between oil changes..

Maybe ok if 10K miles are covered in less than 6 months. Not for me, however.

I do not think I am going to cover 10K miles in 6 months, that's a little much.

I ran Mobil 1 5W30 EP to 8,600 miles and had an oil analysis completed. Overall, the report was good; however, the TBN was 2.0 ... so, the oil was basically about spent.

To be on the safe side with RX, I am going to consistently change the oil every 7,500 miles since I am using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5-30W, not every 5,000.
