Default Cruise range of miles on computer

Hi.. I just got a 2009 RX 350 , and I noticed that driving home with full tank of gas that my range was only reading about 250 miles. This week end I filled the tank up and the range was only reading 253 miles, after driving about 130 miles the computer is showing a range of 208 miles, The tank is showing about 3/4 full. I am showing a average of 24 miles per gallon
Am I looking at some weird problem here or just that the system needs time to rebuild a history.. Thanks all

Bob

It's the latter. I believe the computer calculates remaining miles based on recent consumption history and the estimated gallons in the tank.

The range shown in my '04 RX has always been a much lower number than the fuel remaining and MPG history of my car would indicate. I pretty much ignore it, as it's much easier to learn how the gas gauge is calibrated. It still has some utility, as the "computer" will flash and tell you that it thinks your range is getting dangerously low, but that's really just a very early warning. It's also easier to always fill up when the gauge gets to 1/4 or so, and not worry about running out of gas, but that seems to be a habit not widely practiced.
