Default Extended Warranty

I'm the new owner of a 2008 RX400h. I'm looking into the Lexus extended warranty and am piecing together bits of info from this and other forums. Nothing really seems up to date though.

I'm being quoted $3695 for the 4 year/50,000 mile platinum warranty.

What is the going rate these days? Am I still able to purchase a warranty through distant dealers (after Toyota effectively stopped the out-of-state warranty purchases)? Anyone have a hook up in Illinois?

Put that $3,700.00 in an account, and use it only for repairs over the next four years. At the end of that time, you will probably have a good part of it still in the account. Surely that's the way the math comes out for the company selling you the "warranty." Use that left over money to buy lottery tickets.

Default warranty

I purchased a 2009 RX last summer with 96000 miles at a toyota dealership. I bought a 4 year 48,000 mile warranty for 2,195 through a third party vendor, NAC. A warranty through toyota/lexus wasn't offered. The warranty recently paid for the steering rack debacle.

Thanks for the +1. My last comment about lottery tickets was based on the assumption that the OP wants to fritter this amount away on speculative, high-risk expenditures. This assumption will be soon demonstrated when a few "warranty" buyers report that it covered huge repairs; slot machine play goes way up when a frequent player hits a giant jackpot, but the odds against winning remain the same.

I agree with the others for putting the money in an account. I also thought about an extended warranty on my '04. I decided to forego the warranty and take my chances. So far the only issue I had was the steering rack at $1500(knock on wood!). Our Lexus dealers here are members of the Costco auto program so with that I automatically get 15% off any service except oil/tires.If you are set on getting an extended warranty and are a Costco member they also offer warranties-just an FYI.

Hi, I bought a 1 year/12k power train extended warranty for $2k on my just purchased 2005 RX 330 with 114k miles It's in perfect shape with all services records from their local dealer. I still can get a refund on the warranty which seems to be quite high after reading the posts above . Any advice would be appreciated!

Wow $2000 and it's only at 1year/12k power train warranty. It's your call, but I would take the refund!

Rushore your steering rack would be in that neighborhood but still cheaper even at the dealer! Is there anything wrong now?

Everything is perfect so far. The previous owner took meticulous care of car with all service records from a Lexus dealer. Timing belt and steering rack were already replaced. Since my warranty only covers the power train for 1 year /12k sounds quite expensive. I will most likely ask for a refund this week.

A well maintained RX is fairly predictable and under normal conditions your next expenses are plugs at 120 and possibly struts at some vague future time neither of which would be covered by warranty. Is your car AWD?

Yes its awd. I've gotten some additional quotes from warranty direct, endurance and carchex for 4 yrs/48K power train coverage in the $2000-$2,200 range. Not sure if anyone has dealt with these 3rd party warranty companies? Thank you all for your advice!

I have a 2003 GX470 and I am wondering if I can still purchase an extended warranty from a reputable company.
I know that it may be difficult to find coverage after this year (2014) but does anyone know if Lexus will sell me a warranty at 11 years young and only 78,000 original miles? I'm terrified of having to deal with the failure of the air suspension system. I know that AAA sells a warranty that includes my vehicle and will cover this part but I've read mixed reviews about them. Any advice?
