Default 2004 RX330 at 80K miles need waterpump and timing belt???

Hi Guys,

New to this part of the forum, but a regular at 4th Gen GS forum and 3rd Gen RX forum.

My wife just purchased 2014 RX and looking to hand down her old 2004 RX 330 FWD to our niece who will be starting a college soon. It would be a surprise gift (well sort of used), but I'm pretty sure she'll like it. We just want to make sure everything is in working order before we give it to her so that she isn't stranded middle of no where.

My wife is light on her foot and the car has been babied for the past 80K miles, but a dealer strongly recommended that she should get the waterpump and timing belt (including two idle pulleys) replaced a few year ago, but opted out as it was going to cost at least $2K and I knew she could drive it for a few more years. Luckily it has been fine since, but do not want to take any chances especially when my niece will be driving it.

When did you guys need to change them? What would be a resonable price with lexus parts at an independent mechanic in So Cal? I thinking $900 would do as parts are about $440 and labor is usually double the price of parts.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Consider that you will want to go with the extended kit to include the seals, etc. You will also want to replace the accessory belts.

This is awesome. Thanks. At least I know how much parts will cost me. Which accessory belts should I get?

I may want to buy this part and bring it to my mechanic if i decide to replace them. Is there a discount code for CL members? if so, does anyone have it?

As kickin8 says. You need to go to lexus.sewellparts.com and create an account. As part of the registration process you will see a pop up to select Forum Membership Information. Be sure to fill that out with your CL info. Then, and only while you are logged into your account, you will see any discounted price automatically when you look around. No discount code needed. If you add something to your cart while you are not logged in you will not get the discount.

In regards to which accessory belts, in this case if the OEM has been working fine for you then that would be the way to go. Ordering at the same time would be beneficial as they would not add all that much to the shipping charges.

Be sure to talk with your shop to see if it is OK for you to bring in the parts before going ahead and purchasing. For now, it is enough to get you to start saving for the job ahead. And... any new tires, brakes, etc. you may need.

It'll be even cheaper to buy off of eBay.

All OEM parts: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-LEXUS-ES300-ES330-CAMRY-V6-COMPLETE-OEM-TIMING-BELT-KIT-3-0-3-3-LITER-/370799217514?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ARX330&hash=item56555b0b6a
I've bought from this seller many times before, the parts are in fact OEM and not knockoff's.

good to know, but really don't like their return policy w/in 7 days of purchase? It takes 7 days to get the parts, no?

You can always give them a call and talk to them to see how they respond to your questions. If you do not get a good feeling then you will know. They do not seem to have much in the way of bad feedback and those they have seem to be trivial.
