Red face My window trim fell of my RX330

My rear quarter window trim on my Lexus RX330 just fell off and is no where to be found, I went to the dealer to buy a new one but they told me you have to buy the whole window for around $170.00 dollars and to boot have them install it for another $150.00 dollars that’s $320.00 plus tax to replace the missing part that should never fell off in the first place.

The dealer knows this is a problem on this model from 2004-2007 apparently Lexus used inferior 2 sided tape witch led to the part falling off over time, all the cars I have seen on the road missing this part are clean and free of any tape residue on the window side so the problem was adhesion to the rubber window frame.

The dealer said since the car is no longer under warranty that they would not replace it
for me. They said I would have to purchase the part and have it installed at my expense.

Welcome to Club Lexus, automedic.

Like many topics you might have a question about this one has been discussed previously and at some length. You should spend some time using the search features here at CL to see if your question exists previous before creating a new thread on that topic. You can also search in Google, adding clublexus.com to the list of search terms to help narrow the search parameters.

As for your problem, what you have been told is correct. Yes, if you are out of warranty you are out of luck. The dealers have no incentive to correct this problem. Luckily, when mine fell off I was still under warranty so it was replaced for free though at great inconvenience.

If you had searched you would might have stumbled upon the following thread -- one among many:

Happened to me too. I ended up buying a whole new window online...But to save a few bucks, I just took the trim off the new window and epoxied it onto the old one.

Very common problem. Passenger side is gone on mine, drivers side still there.
