Default burning oil smell...

Burning oil smell but can't figure out where or why.
No Drips (checked standing on dry ground).
No Drips (checked after spraying water down on ground).
Checked Oil, level doesn't change.
Checked Transmission, level doesn't change.

Only thing that has changed is that i went with a 5w-40 oil about 4000km ago. Could it be burning minute amounts of oil during driving under hard conditions (mountains/hills)?

BTW, I cannot fathom why you would want to run a 5W40 motor oil in your RX. I understand the 1MZ-FE you have in your version is tough on oil, but I would think that using a 5W30 or 5W20 synthetic would be a better choice. Heck, I run a 40 weight oil in my Chevelle and that is over forty years old.

Maybe check your gaskets for a small drip over the exhaust manifold.

+1 for the PCV Valve, and +1 for using 5W-30 motor oil.

Keep in mind that RuninRoach is over in Hong Kong and has the previous generation's 3.0L engine in his otherwise 2nd Generation RX. It is definitely a bit harder on oil. Though, I think the 5W40 is too thick for this application. A synthetic would be the way I would go instead of a heavier weight oil.

Wasn't that the sludge prone engine?

Yes. They did not get the 3.3L engine until the following year. Have concerns as to what the heavy weight oil plus the strain being put on the engine on those hard trips he was talking about. Wondering about foaming, etc.

Turned out to be a Engine Cylinder Head Cover gasket that needs to be replaced....anyone know what that involves? dealer charging me $400 including parts and labor.

Front one or rear? If it's the rear one might be a good time to think about plugs if the mileage is close.

nail on the head. Do your plugs at the same time as well as intake manifold and valve cover gaskets.
