Need your opinion on costs of repairs
Hi Experts,
Was at the dealership on Saturday and got a couple of unexpected fixes done on my RX330 (2006). Not too worried abut that, but would you think the following costs are justifiable?
Another thing, had I decided to get them done from an auto shop how much do you think I could have saved?
1. New Battery - The old one never gave me problems, but it was 6 years old and it failed the battery test these guys do. It was left to me, but I decided to get it done, just in case. So this was an Interstate battery which cost me 115 + 60 for the labor and tests = $180
2. Front Brake Pads - No doubt I feel the car brakes much better with the new ones on. The brake pads cost me 90$ and the labor on that $300 = $390.
What is your opinion?
Thanks again !

My OEM battery was 7 years old. I had a new interstate battery installed by AAA Road Assistance. The total cost with installation was $107.
I had the Lexus dealership install front brake pads and machine the rotors. Total Cost $299.

While you might not have saved much on the battery itself, as pointed out by Rainbird, most shops would not have charge for the additional tests and charges.
The brakes you could have saved perhaps half on the labor by using a Toyota or independent shop.

Curious though, how long back did you get the brake pads replaced from the dealership?

The front brakes were done a Lexus of Santa Barbara on 13 August 2013. I checked the invoice and they had a August Service Special on brakes. Regular price was $340.

Wow. $180 to replace a battery. That's steep. I bought my 08 Toyota Avalon battery from Costco (made by Johnson Control) last year at $80 and I replace the battery at the parking lot, 10 minutes job.
Another Wow. $300 labor charge for replacing the front pads? That's steep.

My Toyota mechanic charge $100 labor to replace the front and rear pads on my 08 Avalon. No need to resurface the rotors and I supply the OEM pads, where I get online for around $100.
Took him about a hour and a half to get the job done.
