Let me know if you have any local tips on service. Thanks.
This guy (Harry) is certified and good:

I'm not sure if that is OEM or not, but OEM is usually stated somewhere readily readable.

Most OEM stuff will work fine, but I think the Toyota pumps are not much more expensive from Sewell etc.

Good call, however, I have never tackled a timing belt, so unless and independent shop will let me bring in the parts, my local Toyota shop price's are so much higher than Sewell's.

Local guy in town wants 1/3 of what dealer wants. He said not OEM parts but come as a kit? With belts, pump and bearings.

ALL THE BELTS LOOKED EXTREMELY GOOD. There was little to no wear on the belts what so ever.

120K is not even a stretch for the life of these belts. I did mine at 90K, and I now have nearly 200K on mine, and won't even touch it until 210K or maybe 220K. The factory belts are extremely good and hold up very well.
How about the drive belt. Same mileage for replacing that also?

You should replace the drive belts at the same time. They are cheap, and they have to be removed anyways to do the timing belt job.

Thanks!

Just had rear brakes/rotors, air/cabin filter, Mobil 1 Oil Change, alignment checked, yesterday at 74,916. Re-nitroed the new Continental PureContacts. We should be ready for summer .

This thread helped a bunch for making my decision to wait on the timing belt until 90K.

Thanks,
Rich

Default cost of job

hello,

further to this convo, im wondering, what would be the average cost of having

"timing belt, water pump, tensioner, cam seals, crank seals, both idler pulleys"

done at a non lexus shop ? my mechanic quoted me at $ 850

that is about right in my opinion for all of those parts which is basically everything if you also include drive belts. Lexus dealer will be ~$1200

Depends on the parts being used. Be sure to ask what brand parts. If they are not OEM (Toyota/Lexus) then this could be a bit high. The accessory belts should be changed at this time as well.

Some independent shops have access to purchase their parts through WorldPac. If so, then they are getting the same parts as the dealerships as they supply those as well.

If not OEM it is probably a Gates timing belt kit - just as good in my opinion and what I have on my ES300 [was done well before i knew about rockauto]

I personally would [and have] buy the Aisin kit from rockauto.com, add the hydraulic tensioner [for some reason sold separately] and buy some belts [since you're in there, might as well change the PS/alternator belts]

For this job too, my mechanic had to remove the front valve cover, so if you really want, get that kit too, if you chose not to re-use the old gasket.
