Exclamation 70k miles and all this gone wrong?

I have an '04 RX330 with only 70k miles and i recently took it in for scheduled service at my lexus dealership(Lexus of Woodland Hills in Los Angeles). I was shocked to hear all the things that require immediate attention; Rack & Pinion steering, left Front lower control arm brushings and CV Boots are cracked, and a power steering leakage. The repair for all this, $5000 The car is barely driven and garage kept. Anyone else have similiar issues, i heard of a common issue in Power steering leaks and Rack and pinion issues.

I just bought my 2004 RX330 2 weeks ago, with 73k miles on it. I put 1000 miles on it since buying it and now have 74k on it. This morning I took it in to my local Toyota dealer to have a "vehicle eval" done. They check EVERYTHING and provide a report on what the battery voltage is (and under load), brake pad thickness, tire tread depth, check CV joints, power steering one and on... I was VERY happy to hear them say "It is in excellent condition and we can't find anything it needs!". So I would say you have what, some might say, is an unusual situation. Maybe take it to a Toyota dealer for a second opinion?

look up steering leak...there are probably 3 threads on this on the front page. It is an issue but it may not need attention if the leak isnt bad. Dont let the stealership scare you...

Or try the local Toyota place.

Please do not get offended, do really know you car? Can you give us a background?

Or did the lousy service guy make a fatal judgement that you will shell out this kind of repair?

I really do not think your RX is in that bad condition.

Do you have a puddle of oil in your garage?

Sounds like the dealer has a boat payment due. Check around and find a reputable independent mech immediately. None of those things are going to cause you to have to leap from your flaming vehicle just before it crashes into a Cadillac filled with grandmas so get a second opinion before spending a dime.

Thanks everybody. We are thinking of taking it to another lexus dealership or an independent mechanic here in the area. Side story: I took my wifes CT200h into her lexus dealership(Keyes in Van Nuys, Ca if anyone knows them) for a rattling hybrid batter fan and i was really disappointed in their service. So rude and the service advisor was a real jerk.
Anyways I have noticed the power steering leakage so that isn't bs. But will be interested in getting a second opinion or just selling the car and getting a new one.

Good strategy, take it to another Lexus dealer.

And you are on the right track, sell and get the new 2013 RX F Sport!

Heck for that price you could get a rebuilt steering rack with tie rod ends and be way under $1200....

Reviews I have seen say the F-Sport actually performs worse than the regular trim RX 350. It is all smoke and mirrors and a premium price.

Another Lexus dealership could be not that great idea. They probably have in their database all notes from the first one. Could also cheat on you.
Better find independent mechanic.
