Default More Roof Noise Woes

Folks, my 330's moonroof has gotten intolerably noisy...I had the thing adjusted way back when it was under warranty, but the condition is back with a vengeance.

I checked the threads here and it is NOT the gas tank cover. The noise is actually coming from the passenger side roof rail when the roof is retracted OR closed all the way. The noise does not happen when it is "popped". I have verified this by wiggling the glass on that side and there is play in it and when I do, I hear the same damn noise I hear when I am driving down the road.

Problem is I haven't the slightest idea how to address this...there doesn't seem to be an easy fix, noticeable bolt to tighten, etc.

Has anyone else had this condition and if so, what did you do?

Thanks for any responses and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

I will have a look at mine. Are the tracks adjustable? Sounds like you have to much "side to side" play. Is there grease on the tracks? I'm surprised the dealer didn't fix it right. A sunroof is a sunroof. Lexus doesn't make them any differently than anybody else. Check with shops in your area that install sunroofs etc. maybe they can see you problem right off the hop. Good luck with it. jamie

Thanks for the reply - Nothing looks to be adjustable from my perspective but then again I am not a sunroof expert. As far as the Lexus dealership here in Pittsburgh they leave a lot to be desired. Not the first time they have not repaired something correctly.

In any event, good call on going to a sunroof shop that could possibly be an option.

Is it a rattle? I know that mine rattles when I slam one of the doors shut, especially when it is cold. I know that any sunroof is prone to have issues due to bad seals...my RX330 and Mazda6 both rattle when shutting the doors in cold weather.

Definitely a rattle - as I mentioned I can grab ahold of the sunroof on the passenger side when it is opened and wiggle it and there is an obvious gap in between the roof itself and the rail it travels on. Very slight but enough to make a constant noise at speeds above 35-40mph.

my 2007 RX makes a rattle from the sunroof area when the sunroof's closed. From investigating, it seems to be the air deflector itself that rattles when it's in its 'tucked down' position.

I put in several pieces of self-adhesive foam (approx 10mm thickness), on the fixed part of the sunroof mount so that it buffers the deflector from rattling.

Works most of the time, though the rattle does come back occasionally.
