Take a steak to McDonalds for them to cook and you probably wouldn't want it back.

In all my years, and with all the vehicles I have ever owned -- no, I have never needed to do that with the exception of tires which needed to be mounted or rebalanced. I am not trying to squeeze every penny of savings out of those with whom I do business. If I do not like the price I find another shop or do it myself.

From the 2004 owner's manual:

"if SAE 5W-30 is not available, SAE 10W-30 may be used. However, it should be replaced with SAE 5W-30 at the next oil change"

I would be more concerned with 6 quarts then the 10W-30. The 330 only uses 5 quarts. So either they charged you for a quart that hopefully they did not put in your engine or they over-filled your engine. Have you checked the level?

I missed that one. Good catch.

FWIW, I bring my own oil to my independent dealer all the time when servicing my MR2. He doesn't carry the oil I like to run and when asked about this he said he didn't mind at all. I know what I'm getting this way and he likes my business. I do have other things done there to maintain my 20 YO garage queen.

I not only get the oil I want but I frequently can score a good price for the oil. I purchased 4 cases of Pennzoil Platinum 100% synthetic for a buck a quart on Amazon a while back with free super-saver shipping no less. This oil usually sells for $7-$8 a quart.

My last oil change cost me $7.35. $5 for the oil which I supplied, and $2.35 for a Toyota oil filter, an inspection, labor and tax. (He had mailed me a $15 off promotional coupon. Normally the oil filter, labor and tax cost is $18.15.

Wont hurt a thing! Just go back to the 5W-30 next oci. And as far as the so called bottom of the barrel oil? C`mon now, today`s conventional oil`s are top notch motor oil. Better than they ever were. And your engine will most likely out live the rest of your RX on conventional oil any way. (especially if you live in the rust belt like me) Also, Synthetic oil is not required in the 3MZ-FE. If it was, I`d use it. I`m more concerned of the drivetrain (and transmission) holding up than the motor.

Ok, so today my RX went back and they changed the oil again. This time it was delivered to me with a receipt that says "10W-40 oil, 7 quarts"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The service manager, who is not the guy I dealt with last week (he's off) , says he wondered why they were changing the oil a second time. No one bothered to tell him why. He is also claiming that it's a coding issue and they "really" put in 5W-30. I checked the dipstick and it's overfilled...they must have really put in 7 quarts!

I'm gonna have to go elsewhere and get it done right. This pisses me off. I faxes the dealership general manager but haven't heard from him yet.

Wow!! Coding issue?? Overfilled??
I would've asked, did they 'really' put in 7 quarts too??
Makes one wonder what they put in originally.
If they can't get the correct codes for an oil change...........what else is done wrong?

Despite what people tend to assume, there's nothing wrong with conventional oils. Granted, it depends on the specific oil but there's no reason to be concerned over the Lexus stuff.

Already answered but don't overlook Google next time.

Also, don't assume that all dealers for a given brand are the same.

I'd consider $97 for dino oil to be "all that much" markup. I'd hate to see what this dealer would charge for bringing in oil... Not that they could apparently be trusted to actually put the stuff in and to do so properly.

To be fair, the $97 also included an also overpriced $36 tire rotation.
