04 RX330 Diff fluid question
Hello everyone this is my first post, and my first Lexus!! i just picked up an 2004 RX330 AWD, and want to change the differential fluid, but am getting conflicting answers on what fluid to use. I called 3 different dealers here in Canada and all tell me something different. One says 80w90 other says 75w90 and the other just strait 90. Can anyone help me out? I just picked up two liters of Amsoil 80w90 but want to make sure this is the proper weight.
Thanks

The first place to go for answers is your Owner's Manual.
Being you are in a somewhat cold climate and might see 0°F temps, the 80W90 should suffice especially since you are using a synthetic. Looks like you will only need one of those litre (L) bottles for the time being.
If this is the first time the fluid has been changed you will probably find it quite nasty.
Be sure to register your RX with Lexus to give yourself access to past Lexus dealership work, recalls, etc. Have your VIN ready.

While you are at that, you should try to remove some of the power steering fluid for a look as well from the reservoir. That is DEXTRON transmission fluid AND NOT power steering fluid.

Well changed the diff fluid today, and it came out just as clean as the new 80w90 going in, even the magnetic drain plug had hardly and fine steel particles. Next up is the power steering fluid.
Great forum here,
thanks to all

BTW, I misspoke previous when I said the power steering fluid was Type IV transmission fluid. I should know better. The power steering fluid for your Lexus is DEXTRON ATF.
I use Mobil1 ATF in the power steering, though I did run some stock DEXTRON ATF through previous to help flush out the old stuff.

That is good to hear. Clean fluid means it may have been changed and/or perhaps has not seen harsh driving.
