Default 2009 RX350 - Question on Door Sills

Hi All -

I'm looking at buying a CPO 2009 RX350. On the inside doors, along the arm rest area (where the door controls are), there's a small indentation, like for putting coins in, that sort of thing. On the vehicle I looked at, all four doors were lined with felt at the bottom of this little area, almost like a glove box material. Is that right? Or were these added to hide damage to this part of the door? Does that make sense? They looked out of place to me, so wanted to check if this is standard on everyone's RX. It was a light grey felt that looked like it could have been glued on at some point.

2009 is the model year I'm looking at.

Any feedback (negative or positive) on this year? I did hear a couple of rattles (on on the driver's side and one at the rear of the vehicle) that the dealer said the service techs would try to pinpoint. I said I wouldn't proceed until those were fixed, as I don't want to get in the sand trap of the dealer not being able to replicate the problem if I go ahead and buy the car.

Many thanks!

A standard feature on all four doors. I usually keep pack of chewing gum there.

Is the felt lining standard in those indentations? It looked a bit out of place.

I had my felt replaced with stone tanned hummingbird leather, makes my fingertips laugh.

The indentation you refer to is what a lot of us might think of as the feature that allows the arm rest to function as a door handle. On some Lexu$ models this indentation has no "bottom," but on the the '09 RX it has a "floor" and it's upholstered with a felt-like material. It's not a conspiracy to conceal damage but perhaps a questionable material choice.

I've had my '09 CPO for 6 months and have a few observations: couple of very minor rattles / cabin noises, otherwise the body is extremely tight. It was like new at delivery to us - great preparation. One headlamp housing replaced early on for accumulation of condensation. More engine noise than two other Lexu$ models I've owned. Very comfortable seating for short or long trips. We bought a black one - it's difficult to keep the exterior clean but beautiful when it is. Gas mileage is about 25 highway, 19-20 combined highway / city. We much prefered the interior to the current model so we wanted the newest we could get with this configuration even though the technology probably isn't quite as good as current. Would buy it again. Good luck with your deal.
