Did you read this forum before purchase?

If you did, would you still purchase a Lexus RX? Due to the number of problems I have seen on here, I would have looked elsewhefre.

I bought a 2005 Lexus RX330, arriving at the Lexus dealer with no prior research on Lexus. I drove the RX, liked it, and traded a Honda Oddysey. I did check it over fairly thoroughly, and they agreed to repair a small dent in the left rear corner, replace a headlight that had water in it, and touch up a few scratches. I had a few more problems, dash rattle, rattle underneath the vehicle, and strange transmission shift points, all of which were fixed.

I had a "sudden unexplained acceleration incident" while sitting at a stoplight and almost rear-ended someone. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem, and after I expressed my concern, offered to trade for another RX. They gave me what I had paid for the 2005 RX six months before, so I traded for a 2009 Lexus RX350, equipped the same.

They replaced one waterlogged headlight, re-flashed the transmission, touched up a couple of scratches, and aimed the headlights. This RX has been okay, although I don't drive very much.

You can't take a forum like this and assume that all RX's have problems. There are millions of RX's on the road most of these have no problems whatsoever. I have 50K on my RX and had only one problem (rear hatch rattle), that was fixed by the dealer under warranty.

Rx350

I would like to add that I have had my 2007 RX350 for about 50 months. So far I have done regular servicing and filters. And new set of tires. My RX has been in the shop once for the oil line TSB.

Not one flat or break down. I wish I could say that for any other new car I have bought.

You see the problems on this web page because of the problems. I haven't posted every day. Saying " Everything is Great "

Have you ever looked any any other forums? And see the items posted? Talked to anyone who owns a Kia lately?

Every car forum on the web has a laundry list of complaints. Every man made machine will fail at some point. If you compare Lexus with a Caddy, Benz, or BMW forum, you would be surprised the amount of complaints they have over trivial things as well.

Because hearing how great the RX is would be boring?

I can count on one hand the problems I've had with my 3 RXs in almost 13 years. There are also a fair number of 1st and 2nd gens on the road by me. I'm not saying your problems weren't legit. I would put it behind you and enjoy the '09. Otherwise you run the risk of being hypersensitive.

well so far so good for me i bought my 08 rx in may after trading my 06 expedition ( god i had to pay 300$ a month just fixing problems with the ford) and no problems whats so ever except a nail in the tire but wouldnt call that a problem lol
but owning 03 mercedes S500 even that breaks down !!! there is no car in the world that doesnt break down from stupid lil problems to big problems but of course there is a car that breaks down everyday !! and one that breaks down every 6 months .. and if my car breaks down every 4-6 months pfftt im happy !!

I spent a lot of time reading and searching the gen2 forum to learn what the recurrent topics were. I was interested in an '07 to '09 because I don't care for the interior of the later RXs as much. So there were a number of things that could eventually give problems but this is true of nearly any car. Lexus vehicles, by the numbers, are among the most reliable available so I reasoned that a low mileage RX would further increase my chances of having uneventful ownership. I eventually bought a black '09 CPO and have been very pleased. So has the wife. The dealer has had to fix a few things (not surprisingly some that I had read about in this forum) but I would buy the same car again.

I did the same thing with my SC430 but bought from a private party. Maintenance has been about zero with that car despite a lot of issues mentioned on the 430 forum.

Checking in with:

CR, True Delta, JD Power, MSN auto, and a myriad of other sources say that the RX 330 is pretty bullet-proof.

RuninRoach 07-04-11 11:20 PM

not bullet proof. Cousin in Pakistan with Harrier 240G....went to work...came back and found car had interesting hole on hood...opened it to find that bullet had landed and gone through...

a pain in the @55 as the harrier was not supported by the toyota dealer and everything had to be flown in to fix....
