Our new-to-us RX400H is coming up in 180K miles, so we're doing the 60K mileage. I should post the estimate that the Lex dealer gave us as a quote - $970 or so with nothing major on there - mostly stuff like check this, check that. Changing oil , filter, change air and climate filters seemed to be the most difficult items, which are easy and I changed the oil/filter as soon as we bought it. Timing Belt/Water pump were done at 170K miles..

One item named "Tighten Axle Shaft Boot" is a little perplexing. I obviously know where they are, but are there specific torque settings ? I've had numerous cars/trucks with CV Boots but I've never seen tightening these as a service item - they mostly seem to have these non-adjustable metal bands fixing them to the shafts... I just replaced my Tacoma's left Axle and they had those non-adjustable bands.

Can someone who's done this comment on this procedure? Do you just see if the bolts (assuming bolts or hose clamps?) are loose and tighten them ?

I did a search here and didn't find any info on this

Your right they are put on with metal bands you cant tighten them . Take it to a good independent shop and save a pile of money.

Yea, I just got underneath and looked at them and they look like those un-adjustable bands.. They look OK..

I think the only thing I'll have done by the dealer is to flush the brake fluid - I'll do the rest myself..

I just added a new one. About $5 clamp at Napa, and then bought the special pliers at O'Reilly's for $9. I was able to install a new clamp from the bottom side of vehicle without removing the wheel. I like the Napa one because it was more solid and adjustable.

The tool is NOT quality but worth a shot if you only have one boot.

get a power bleeder ($35 - $40) and bleed the brakes yourself, by yourself. I don't put the brake fluid in the actual power bleeder, I just stop and refill the reservoir. 10 psi is enough pressure to easily bleed the brakes. You don't even need to jack up the RX.
