Default USA SPEC PA15-TOY iPod Interface '07 RX350

Just installed the USA SPEC PA15-TOY in my '07 RX350 w/out NAV, providing a controllable iPod interface and an auxilliary jack. I used a PAC Isimple Dash Mount 3.5mm Female/Male Stereo Audio Interconnect (PAC IS335) for the Aux jack mounted next to the cigarette lighter. The PA15TOY has RCA inputs on the back of the unit and the Isimple 3.5mm jack comes with a connector/adapter to enable this hookup. Installation was fairly easy and the unit is small and fits nicely in the void between the footwells in the center console hidden behind the trim panels. Interface cables and wired harnesses had plenty of length and threading them down and through from behind the factory stereo was straightforward. Here are a couple of hints/problems/suggestions;
1) Once you've removed the factory stereo (10mm socket with 8"-10" extension necessary), make sure that the 'soft' sides of the center console are protected by a towel or something. I managed to knock the back of the radio against it and left indentations on both sides.
2) If you are going to drill through the faux woodgrain to mount the 3.5mm jack like I did, use a BRAND NEW sharp bit (3/8") since the clear coat on the woodgrain finish chips easily around the hole. DO NOT work the bit side to side nor in and out, for this will chip that finish and end up making the hole just a bit to big for the mount locks to work properly. You will probably need a bit of glue to hold it in anyways, since pulling a tightly fitting 3.5mm jack out of the mount tends to pull the mount out of the hole as well.
3) The sound from the iPod is great. The AUX input volume is a bit low.
4) The iPod interface with the factory stereo has a few limitations. The stereo recognizes the PA15-TOY as an extra CD changer, so you have to create 6 playlists to emulate 6 CD's. Consequently, you can only cycle through each playlist by song, so no searching for Artist or Album on your stereo readout by using Track Up or Track Down, but this is as much a limitation of the non-NAV stereo as it is a shortcoming of the adapter. You have the option of operating the iPod in Direct mode and using the iPod as you normally would and you still have the ability to control volume and change tracks with the stereo controls, but you will no longer have the Artist or Title readout on your stereo.
5) Overall, I'm happy with the results and the price is right. I use a ProClip vent mount for the iPod and if I use a device for the AUX input it just sits in the floor tray in front of the center console with the 3.5mm wire leading up to the jack. I now have thousands of songs at my disposal on my iPod and the AUX input jack that was always missing from this car when I bought it.
