Hey Carver,

Sorry to wake the 2 year old thread, but the videos you have originally posted are no longer working...

Any chance you still have them and could post them again?

Thanks a lot!

Ok... Too bad...

Thank you for the reply though!

Do you still have your RX? If yes, still with MF? Loving it?

Thanks

Yes, still got it, still got the muff, love the car.

If you read the thread it will point out the 330 has the resonator at the rear and the muff is in the middle. If you do this you should replace the mid muff with a MF resonator and the rear resonator with this muff.

I originally had an RX300 that was the opposite, muff in rear and resonator in the middle and thought they were the same so I ended up double muffed on the 330. A resonator is inexpensive just pick one up when you buy the muff.

I hear you.

Is there a part number for the resonator? Model number?

Also, does it add to the sound or does the sound remain the same?

Thanks a lot Carver!

Go by the pipe size, I think it's 2 1/4 but not sure. Someone recently did the muff and resonator swap with good results. Try searching 'resonator' in this forum.

So hold on, you are running with two mufflers now?

LOL, yes, been meaning to get the resonator but keep kicking that can down the road. I think the MF is probably less restrictive than the factory resonator but it does need to be done.

LOL, i see

I'm just trying to research an option where the exhaust would be less restrictive, but not loud and making ricer sounds. Quiet at low rpms and some deep sounding when you hit it...

Also, has anyone done ECU tune up after installing the muffler and resonator?

My understanding is that it has to be done in order to see improvement... Maybe I'm wrong...

And Carver, if you could and it's not too much trouble for you, could you please make another video of your double muffler sound? I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you!

You don't really need to play with the ECU for this one. There's enough leeway from my experience for the ECU to adapt for muffler and even a ram air intake. Keep in mind that a lot of the OEM setup is done for emissions/noise reasons and balancing it with performance.

Can I ask why everyone specifically used Magnaflow 14829?

It won't be the same for me to say so since I don't have an RX330, but the reason I would use a particular muffler (other than a particular shape like oval) would be the inlet/outlet size. Most good muffler shops have equipment where they can expand the inlet/outlet if need be, but I generally will get something a 1/4 inch larger than the pipe I am putting it on and then let them weld it shut.

I would say the main reason is that it fits. They don't have to reinvent the wheel. It has the added advantages of being a quality product, priced well and good looking.

Some have used Flowmaster and other solutions as well. Use what you want.
