Loose Mirror

My driver side mirror jiggles when driving. How do I open it to tighten it?

Welcome to Club Lexus. What year is your Lexus RX? If it is within the 4 year, 50k warranty take it to Lexus under warranty. Use the "search forum" box, you will find it very helpful. Almost any question you could have would have been discussed previously. Here is a link about loose mirrors:

Good link, hopefully you just need to tighten the screews.

Loose mirror

I have figured it out, myself. There is a plastic plate underneath the mirror with a little space where a small screwdriver can be inserted to pop it out. Then two hex screws appear. I tightened both, and the mirror is now stable.

Did not take pics? Would have been a good DIY!

I know you figured it out already, but just to correct a couple of things. The little "door" on the bottom comes off with a flick of a small flat head screwdriver (be careful that you don't break the tabs that hold the door on). Then, you mention two hex screws, they are really TORX and not hex. Using a hex wrench in a TROX screw WILL strip them out in a very short while. I don't remember the exact size (I’m thinking T15 or so), but they are cheap to get and many things (like out door lawn furniture) comes with those kind of wrenches for free (if you keep them). My wife folds her mirror in (a lot), so I have to assume you do the same. It will loosen up again, but at least it is a fast fix.

Has anyone stripped the threads that tightens the mirror? My mirror came loose against and now the bold just spins endlessly. Are the threads in the housing plastic? I pulled the bolt out and the threads look fine. Anyone have tips how I can tighten the mirrors again? The movement in the mirrors is driving me crazy.

Scroll up and read the 2nd post. There is a link to another thread where the person had the same problem as you. Easy fix, read the post. Also watch the video in post # 7 above.

Missing Bolt for Driver Side Mirror - need replacement size

I've been to 3 Auto parts stores and can't seem to find the correct size of the bolts that fasten the driver side mirror (under the cap that's been discussed in the forum).

Anyone know what size those are?

Any help is appreciated before I lose the mirror altogether!
Mike

Take one of the bolts to a hardware store like home depot and match it up. You probably won't get a Torx head bolt, but that doesn't matter. Just make sure you don't get indoor bolts that will rust.
