Default RX330 Brake Recall

Heard on GMA this morning that my 2005 RX330 was part of a recall to correct a potential brake fluid leak from the master cylinder. Anyone know what fix the dealers plan to do? Just inspect and report; or rebuild or replace the master cylinder?

According to the article I read on CNN, they are going to replace a master cylinder seal.

Interesting; appplies only to models made in Japan. Apparently Canadian built vehicles are not on the list.

Your assessment.

May I ask on what basis did you conclude?

Vehicles affected:
The models affected by the latest recall in the U.S. include the 2005 and 2006 Avalon, 2004 through 2006 non-hybrid Highlander and Lexus RX330, and 2006 Lexus GS300, IS250, and IS350 vehicles, the company said in a release from its U.S. headquarters in Torrance, California.

Weren't ALL RX330's sold in the US made in Canada? That being the case, the article posted here by JFELBAB suggests that it's NOT JUST the "Japanese RX330's" being recalled.

Article says:

"Toyota said the problem stems from the use of non-Toyota brake fluid. Toyota-brand brake fluid contains lubricating polymers that prevent the problem, the company said.

The company said that Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the brake master cylinder cup at no charge to vehicle owners."

So how does changing the brake master cylinder impact owners if "Toyota said the problem stems from the use of non-Toyota brake fluid."??

Does this make sense?

There are some posters here who have Japanese built RX330's from the affected model years. Also, seems all the hybrids (400H) were exclusively from Japan.

The article I read seemed to indicate just the Japanese built vehicles (not just RX) were included. The recall is also elsewhere in the world outside of North America.

The 330 started coming out of Canada in September 2003. My '04, delivered same month, was from Japan.

I do recall hearing about brake problems back in 2005 or 2006. When I asked my sales guy about it, he told me it only affected Canadian built RXs. I don't know whatever came out of it since I had a Japanese built RX.
