I have an 07 RX350 with 60k miles and the check engine light came on. I got the "P0356" Ignition Coil code from scanners at Autozone and Advance. This indicates a problem with coil #6. I tried resetting the code and then got it again (thus why I went to both places). I thought I had felt a slight skip on idle or while the engine was in a strain going up a hill the past day or two previous to the light coming on. I definitely feel that now. A couple questions:
1) I'm assuming the only solution here is to replace coil # 6 is that right? Nothing around the coils look loose or damaged on visual inspection.
2) How can I determine for sure which coil is the #6 one? Are these labeled somewhere? After searching, I saw another post on here showing the positions on an RX300, but didn't know if these are the same for the RX350.
3) Would it be necessary to change the #6 or all of the spark plugs? Could they be damaged now?
I just want to make sure I need this part before I invest the money in it ($113 at Autozone) and cannot return it.
4) Is there anything special I need to do before or after changing the coil (unhook the battery, etc)?

just try to swapped the coils first, see if the code will travel with the coil. I don't know where is coil #6 front or rear side of the engine(under the intake manifold). btw if it's there, you can remove coil without removing intake manifold, the trick is how to disconnect a harness from the coil itself. You will need a pick had shaped as 90 degree hook. It worked for me best.
Let us know how went and where #6 coil.

I had to have one of my spark plug coil's replaced not long ago.This was on bank number 4 in order to get the dash light to go out. It was quite expensive to have done. Do you have extended warranty?. This repair should be under warranty. If you have the warranty,see if it is covered.

if possible swap the coil -with another one or disconnected it. if you get to disconnected it should act the same since it was not working in the first place.

The only problem with swap is that you need the OBDII reader to show you the problem moved from one cylinder to the other. Loss of power and rough idle will be the same.

The other option is to pull the plug out and connect the ignition coil to it and lay the plug on the head. In a garage one can see the presence or absence of the spark.

if the 07 2gr is the same as the avalon motors there is a TSB for faulty coils. new updated coils are present. go to lexus hell even toyota and have them look up any TSB's. looking at your engine bay you have your belts/alt on your left hand side, that coil is number 2, then goes 4 in the middle and 6 on the right.

Does Lexus do anything for you on a TSB if it is out of warranty?

Depends on dealer to dealer, if you are a frequent customer that does their services with us, or long time customer and you are not that far out of warranty we might be able to good will the part or we labor, you pay for the part. something like that. thats what we have done in the past

is this the ignition coil that is located towards the front of the car and on the driver's side?
is there a toyota part that we can use...lexus dealers around me are asking $130!!!

Same ignition coil is used in the 3.5L Highlander, Camry, and RAV4 of the same model year.

Use a ten mm wrench or socket to remove the coil. ON THE COIL you will find a Toyota Part number somewhere on it. You can then use that part number and search the web or local shops etc. etc. to get the best price.

It is actually a simple fix. Unplug the wire harness, use the ten MM to loosen the keeper bolt, then twist and remove the coil. Replace with another new one.
