Class II or Class III tow hitch
I recently bought a 2008 RX350 with the tow prep pkg. I'm now interested in buying a tow hitch to carry bikes and pull our moderately sized (19') Boston Whaler, an infrequent event.
For resale and aesthetics, I've already decided to buy an OEM hitch, but I'm unsure of which one. From my research of this forum and other websites it appears Lexus sells two OEM hitches that fit the RX350, a class II (part number PT228-48045) and a class III (part number PT228-48210). Since the RX350 is only rated to pull 3500#s, the limit of the class II hitch, what would be the reason for a class III hitch?
Also, I'm surprised at the expense of OEM hitch's online. The cheapest I found the OEM class II was ~$320, if anyone knows of an online store that sells them more reasonably priced, pls pass along the URL.
TIA, Swedevb
